Garner receiving votes for No. 1

Garner, one of two undefeated 4-A boys basketball teams in the state, received two votes for No. 1 this week in the NCPreps.com statewide poll. Meanwhile, two 1-A teams from area conferences are ranked No. 1.

N&O boys basketball rankings

Undefeated Garner continues to rule the News & Observer high school boys basketball rankings. There are no new teams, but there are some adjustments throughout the top dozen teams.

N.C. basketball rankings

Princeton leads the 1-A boys state basketball poll while the Garner boys and the Green Hope girls are second in their 4-A polls. The Middle Creek boys and Wakefield boys also are ranked in the 4-A top 10. Millbrook, Durham Riverside and Southeast Raleigh are among top 10 4-A girls.

South Johnston wins softball tournament

South Johnston defeated Princeton 10-3 on Saturday to win the Princeton Easter Invitational softball invitational.

Kaitlyn Barbour struck out 10 and allowed eight hits in the victory. She also had three singles. Teammate Heather Howard added a single, double and triple.

 

South Johnston is rolling, 55-7

South Johnston, the Cape Fear Valley 3-A favorite, is beating 1-A Princeton 55-7 in the fourth quarter.
