Police protest at council meeting
Submitted by jaydub on 10/06/2008 - 20:41Police officers filled the City Council chambers half an hour before the council's meeting tonight, to protest their pay.
Upset about a salary study earlier this year that showed their average pay is more than 20 percent lower than the average salary paid police officers across the Triangle, an estimated 250 officers and their family members marched to the council chambers from the Durham Public Library.
Crime report: "Frustrating"
Submitted by jaydub on 09/19/2008 - 09:53Violent crime in Durham continued an upward trend in August, prompting several city council members to vent some frustration Thursday.
"The trend doesn't look good," said Mayor Bill Bell.
