2012 "Play 4 the Cure" field hockey tournament at Cary Academy

This year's "Play 4 the Cure" high school field hockey tournament at Cary Academy starts Friday and ends Saturday. The 16 participants are broken up into four four-team groups and will play in one of three different brackets on Saturday.

Last year's event donated $1,947 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.

Durham Academy wins "Play 4 the Cure" field hockey tournament

Durham Academy won the “Play 4 the Cure” field hockey tournament on Saturday by defeating Charlotte Providence Day School 5-0 in the championship game. Tournament MVP Lauren Rogers had three goals in the title game, while Robin Blazing had the other two.

The two-day annual tournament, which raised money for breast cancer research, was hosted by Cary Academy. After pool play on Friday, the 12 teams were broken up into three four-team brackets on Saturday.
