Wake Forest-Rolesville and Panther Creek will play next week for a berth in the 4-AA championship game.

Chapel Hill 28, Pittsboro Northwood 24

CHAPEL HILL — The Chapel Hill Tigers had their hands full with Pittsboro Northwood’s rushing attack on Friday night, but Northwood failed to convert a single PAT or two-point conversion despite equally the home team in touchdowns. The end result: a 28-24 loss

Final: Northwood 53, South Brunswick 46

Northwood rallied by South Brunswick in the second half Thursday night for a 53-46 victory in the NCHSAA 2-A boys basketball eastern regional semifinals. Ridge Smith led the Chargers with 22 points, while Jake Houck added 18.

Northwood (19-5) will meet either East Duplin (21-6) or Burlington Cummings (21-6) in Saturday's regional final at 5 p.m. back on the ECU campus.

Northwood pulls ahead

Northwood ended the third quarter with a 16-0 run to pull ahead of South Brunswick 37-27 entering the fourth quarter. Ridge Smith hit a 23-foot 3-pointer at the quarter buzzer to cap the spurt.

Northwood down two at the break

Northwood had a pair of chances in the final minute of the half to pull even with South Brunswick but trails 23-21 at the half in the 2-A eastern regional boys semifinals. Junior guard Ridge Smith leads the Chargers with nine points at the half.

 

Northwood down after a quarter

South Brunswick (24-5) leads Pittsboro Northwood 15-9 after a quarter in the NCHSAA 2-A boys basketball eastern regional semifinals here at Williams Arena on the campus of East Carolina University.

Northwood (18-5) shot just 33 percent (4-for-12) in the first eight minutes.
