Cary caterer Greg Lewis and his wife, Maria Parker-Lewis, couldn't stand to see the Pittsboro General Store Cafe close its doors in January.
So they bought the restaurant -- a hub in this Chatham County town -- and renamed it The Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store. The landmark restaurant will reopen Friday.
"We didn't feel Pittsboro was losing a restaurant. We thought it was losing a part of the community," Greg Lewis says about he and his wife's reaction. The couple dined there regularly because they lived minutes away.
The previous owners had to file for bankruptcy last year after a $1.4-million expansion in 2008 coincided with the recession.
Fans of the old restaurant may not recognize the new space. Greg Lewis says they have changed everything from the floors to the ceiling. The new menu, as well as photos of many of the dishes, are posted on their Facebook page plus the schedule of live music.
Greg Lewis and his wife have lived in the Triangle for 12 years, running his catering company, Catering by Design in Cary. They have lived in Pittsboro for six years.
From noon-2 p.m. Friday, the public is welcome to come to the a ribbon cutting and open house. Then the restaurant will open for businss as usual at 5 p.m.
Its regular hours will be 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturdays and closed Sundays.
