Triangle athletes swim to strong finishes at Peter Vanderkaay-led Charlotte Ultraswim

Triangle swimmers, with the women leading the way, produced top-10
finishes and a variety of junior- and senior-nationals qualifying times
during the highly competitive Charlotte UltraSwim meet held Thursday
through Sunday and hosted by the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club at the
Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

In the top individual finish, Duke Aquatics' Ashley Twichell, 20, was
seventh in the women's 1,500-meter freestyle in 8 minutes, 53.54
seconds, a time that qualifies her for the U.S. senior nationals.

The YMCA of the Triangle Area's men's 400-meter freestyle relay team had the top finish among Triangle competitors.

Olympic gold-medalist Peter Vanderkaay will conduct clinic for Triangle swimmers

An Olympic gold-medalist is coming to the Triangle to share his experiences and expertise with recreational and competitive swimmers.
Peter Vanderkaay, who won gold medals on the 800 freestyle relay teams at the Athens Olympics and the Beijing Olympics, will visit Raleigh for the clinic on April 17.
He will instruct swimmers during the Speedo Olympic Swim Clinic being held 9-11 a.m. at N.C. State's Willis Casey Natatorium.
