Raleigh's Simson wins N.C. Senior Amateur, and other area golfers are right behind

What a memorable May 13 for Raleigh's Paul Simson.

He will be inducted into the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame tonight
fresh off winning his 22nd Carolinas Golf Association championship
earlier in the day.

Simson, the defending champion, shot a
final-round 69 to take a four-stroke victory and reclaim the N.C.
Senior Amateur Championship at Forsyth Country Club in Winston Salem.

Raleigh's Simson nears all-time Carolinas Golf Association record with latest victory

Paul Simson of Raleigh is three victories shy of tying the Carolinas
Golf Association's all-time title-holder, Dale Morey, after winning his
21st Carolinas Golf Association major championship in dramatic fashion.

The veteran golfer sank a birdie on the first playoff hole to win his
second Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship title in three years
this past Thursday at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington.

Simpson and playing partner Don Detweiler of Raleigh defeated 36-hole
leaders David Millis and Kim Mansfield of High Point in the playoff.
