A&E cancels 'The Cleaner'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, A&E has lowered the ax on "The Cleaner," the drama starring Benjamin Bratt.

The show finished what I thought was a stronger-than-the-first, 13-episode season this month.

On "The Cleaner," Bratt played a former drug addict who used extreme methods of intervention to help other addicts. With its cancellation, and the cancellation of "The Beast," the show that starred Patrick Swayze, A&E is out of the scripted drama business.

Maybe the network figured that with their hit "Intervention" they were telling the story of addiction powerfully already. And they have another hit in "Hoarders."

Still, it was nice having Bratt back on TV.

Dancing with the Stars: A double elimination and a Swayze tribute

Once again, the Happiness bloggers elected my mom our Dancing with the Stars correspondent. After each show, she calls me with her report...

Last night's "Dancing with the Stars" had a double elimination that
had to be at least be a little bit surprising to some. Maybe not so much for the men, but in the womens' group, pretty much everyone I heard from felt sure that Kathy Ireland would be going home first. Not so.

The show started with DWTS alum Adam Carolla, there to give a pep talk to the men. My mom said this was the best part of the show:

What to Watch: Josh Groban guests on Glee

America's Got Talent (8pm, NBC) -  In the season 4 finale, a winner is announced and takes home $1 million. British singer Susan Boyle will perform, as will Shakira, Leona Lewis and Rascal Flatts

The Beautiful Life (9pm, CW) - Tonight is the pilot for a new CW show exec produced by Ashton Kutcher about up-and-coming models in the New York fashion world. Sara Paxton, Elle Macpherson, and Mischa Barton (all at left) star.

Glee (9pm, Fox) - Will neglects the Glee club while forming an all-male acapela group, so the kids hire a well-known choreographer to assist them. Josh Groban stars as himself.

BIO Remembers Patrick Swayze (10pm, A&E) - A special look back at the life of late actor Patrick Swayze. There's also a marathon of Swayze's A&E tv show "The Beast" from 2pm-6pm, and again at 11pm. "The Beast" aired on A&E last season.

We wish you peace, Patrick Swayze

Patrick Swayze died today at the age of 57 of pancreatic cancer.

Swayze didn't have much of a TV career, although in the last year of his life, as he fought his cruel disease, he starred on A&E's "The Beast" (that's the still at left) and the 1985 mini-series "North & South" helped establish his career. Another big TV moment for Swayze was his legendary Chippendale audition dance-off with the late Chris Farley on SNL.

Of course, his big film hits were "Ghost," with "The View's" Whoopi Goldberg and "Dirty Dancing" filmed in the great state of North Carolina.

More importantly, Patrick Swayze seemed to be a lovely, graceful man who was crazy about his wife. That's not a bad legacy either.

What to Watch on Wednesday: 'Top Chef Masters' and a Swayze bio

So You Think You Can Dance (8pm, Fox) - The top 20 dancers perform.

Top Chef Masters (10pm, Bravo) - A spinoff of "Top Chef" in which 24 master chefs compete to win $100,000 for charity. Tonight features Hubert Keller, Christopher Lee, Tim Love, and Michael Schlow.

E! True Hollywood Story (10pm, E!) - Cancer fighter Patrick Swayze (right) is the focus of E!'s latest bio show. A&E has not renewed Swayze's cop drama "The Beast."

The Unusuals (10pm, ABC) - Walsh and Shraeger investigate the homicide of a drug-store owner who was shot while running naked down the street. Delahoy finally gets an MRI to check the status of his brain tumor.
