Emptying the notebook on the proposed superconference

Hope everyone has had a chance to read our story today on a proposed unprecedented 14-team, dual-division conference that would merge the Tri-Nine and PAC-6 conferences in 2013.

There was a lot going on behind-the-scenes leading up to this proposal in recent weeks. Many of it did not or could not make the story, so I'll post it below.

Panther Creek, Green Hope will appeal realignment

Cary’s Green Hope and Panther Creek will be in a high school conference with Durham Hillside, Durham Jordan, Durham Riverside, Northern Durham and Person for the next four years according to a plan approved Wednesday by the realignment committee of the N.C. High School Athletic Association.

PAC-6 Basketball Tournament Pairings

Hillside managed to sweep the PAC-6 tournament titles, defeating Southern Durham in the girls championship by three points and getting a last-second basket to upset 1-seed Person for the boys championship.

Green Hope and Panther Creek made requests to the N.C. High School Athletic Associaton on Tuesday to place the schools in a league with other current Tri-Nine 4A schools.

Greater Neuse leaders East Wake and Southeast Raleigh play tonight in girls basketball. Millbrook and Enloe share Cap Eight lead. Green Hope tops Tri-Nine.

Wakefield, Broughton and Enloe share Cap Seven boys basketball lead. Garner and Middle Creek lead Greater Neuse and Tri-Nine 4-A.
