What to Watch on Tuesday: Shaq vs. Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Shaq Vs. (9pm, ABC) - Shaquille O'Neal's series in which he challenges the most accomplished athletes in various sports to battle him -- in their sport -- returns tonight, and the action is here in North Carolina. Shaq challenges NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a head-to-head race in Concord, NC. Shaq also goes to Washington D.C. to try to out-spell this year's National Spelling Bee champion.

MasterChef (9pm, Fox) - The chef tryouts continue for the new reality competition show with a grand prize of $250,000 and a published cookbook. Tonight look for NC's own Darryl Pierce, who makes an impression on chef Gordon Ramsay because he's pretty handy in the kitchen despite being born with just three fingers on each hand.

White Collar (9pm, USA) - Mozzie puts himself in a vulnerable situation tonight when he asks Peter and Neal for help finding someone important to him who may have been kidnapped.

The Rachel Zoe Project (10pm, Bravo) - The new season begins in the aftermath of Taylor's firing (thank God) and Brad and Rodger scrambling to prepare for a big shoot with Demi Moore.

One Big Happy Family (10pm, TLC) - Tameka considers a career change and enrolls in truck driving school. And after the family visits a friend who just had a baby, Tameka and Norris have a talk with the kids about the birds and the bees.

What to Watch on Tuesday: Too hot in Hell's Kitchen, D-List returns

Hell's Kitchen (8pm, Fox) - In a two-hour episode, the 14 competing chefs cook for the USC marching band and Song Girls, but one chef gets burned and has to leave the competition. After a second challenge, for which the chefs cook with ingredients determined by a roll of a die, Chef Gordon Ramsay cuts the field to 12. (Wake Forest farmer/chef Andrew Forster dramatically walked off the show last week)

Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (9pm, Bravo) - The sixth season of Kathy Griffin's very funny reality show opens strong, featuring Kathy's guest spot earlier this year on NBC's "Law & Order: SVU." Kathy's pretty nervous about the "real acting job" so she gets lessons from Liza Minelli. Read more about this episode and the upcoming season.

One Big Happy Family (9pm, TLC) - The Cole family's backyard gets a makeover, complete with a weight loss monument. Later, Tameka and Norris enjoy a night out.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent (10pm, USA) - An investigation into a food truck operator's murder sheds light on the rivalry between the man and a powerful political family.

Double Exposure (10pm, Bravo) - A new reality series following a pair of photographers who do celebrity photo shoots and high-fashion pictorials. On this first episode, a shoot with rapper-actress Eve results in fiery outbursts. Check out Adrienne's review.

NC's "Big Happy Family" returns to TLC tonight

The Cole family from Indian Trail (near Charlotte) are back tonight for season two of their TLC reality show, "One Big Happy Family."

In the first season, TLC cameras followed the obese family -- parents Norris and Tameka, kids Shayne and Amber -- as they went about their daily lives while trying to lose weight and get healthier (son Shayne was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes while filming).

The family makes "One Big Happy Family" work

I was ambivalent about TLC's "One Big Happy Family." (TLC, 9 tonight).

The show about a morbidly obese family from North Carolina (Indian Trail) set out to show us what it's like to live as they do.

Interesting? Exploitive? Both?

What to Watch on Tuesday: Kennedy Center salutes DeNiro and The Boss

Better Off Ted (9:30pm, ABC) - Veronica slacks off at work when her magician boyfriend Mordor shows up unexpectedly.

Meet the Charlotte family with a TLC reality show

Tomorrow you can meet them on TLC, but today we have our chat with the Coles -- Dad Norris, Mom Tameka, daughter Amber and son Shayne -- the stars of "One Big Happy Family." (We'll have a review tomorrow.)

The show chronicles the lives of the family, who live in the small town of Indian Trail. ("There's a parade every now and then," says Shayne.) It's about 15 miles southeast of Charlotte.

Charlotte family to be featured in new TLC series

TLC has ordered a six-episode series that chronicles the lives of a morbidly obese family facing everyday realities, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show will be a half-hour documenatry series following a family from 'outside Charlotte, N.C.,' that wants to make a change in their lives. It's tentatively titled "One Big Happy Family."
