The Wake County school board announced new principals tonight for two schools while moving another principal into an assistant principal's position.

Kelly Aman will become principal of West Millbrook Middle School in North Raleigh with a salary of $89,696. Aman has been an assistant principal at Millbrook High School since 2005.

Robin J. Wahl will now be principal of Northwoods Elementary School in Cary with a salary of $115,014. Wahl has been principal of Weatherstone Elementary School since 1998.

David Newkirk will leave his position as principal of Hunter Elementary School in Raleigh, where he's been at since 2009. Newkirk will now be an assistant principal at Knightdale High School.

The Wake County school board appointed one principal and three interims principals on Tuesday.

Robert Lewis was hired to be principal of Fox Road Elementary School in North Raleigh with a salary of $106,992. The former longtime Millbrook Elementary School principal has been principal of Ordway Elementary School in Bainbridge Island, Wash., since 2006.

Until Lewis starts, the board reappointed Teresa Abron to stay on as Fox Road's interim principal through the end of June.

The Wake County school board appointed a principal to North Forest Pines Elementary School tonight and made several interim principal appointments.

Syreeta Smith was promoted from assistant principal to principal of North Forest Pines Elementary in Raleigh. She's been at the school since 2007 and will receive a salary of $80,788.24.

As for interim principals:

Three new principals and two interim principals were announced at tonight's Wake County school board meeting.

Barry Richburg was named principal of Conn Elementary School in Raleigh with a salary of $72,386. He's been an assistant principal at Briarcliff Elementary since last year.

Annice Williams was promoted from assistant principal to principal of Poe Elementary School in Raleigh with a salary of $89,521. She had been principal of Barwell Road Elementary until much of the staff was replaced last year when it became part of the Renaissance School program.

Could Wake County teachers be meeting in the mornings this fall instead of in the afternoons for their professional learning community time?

That's an idea being explored by school board member John Tedesco. In that scenario, teachers would meet in the mornings with the possibility of delaying the start of classes.

Whether that option will be doable this fall is a question.

Three new Wake County principals were appointed at today's school board meeting.

Kerry Chisnall was named principal of Northwoods Elementary in Cary. He replaces Mary Swann, who left to become principal of East Cary Middle.

Chisnall has been an assistant principal at East Cary Middle since 2007. Before coming to Wake in 2001, he was a teacher in New Zealand. He will receive a salary of $73,943.
