Friday's girls NCHSAA sectional finals

Girls basketball teams play this Friday with a chance to advance to next week's regionals. Two area Cinderellas are still alive: 12-seed Cary and 11-seed Sanderson, who play at 1-Millbrook and 7-Southern Durham, respectively.

Hillside at Green Hope, a rematch from a second-round thriller from last year, highlights the area games as the two sides are a combined 49-5 this year.

Chapel Hill, Northwood, Jordan-Matthews and Goldsboro are at home in their quests to make regionals, while Bunn and Southern Lee are on the road.

All game times are 7 p.m.

Carolina-12 Basketball Tournament Results

The Carolina-12 Conference, which has both 1A and 2A members, splits its post-season basketball tournament by classification.

Northwood's boys were upset by Carrboro in the 2A tournament final, while the Northwood girls defeated host Granville Central.

Roxboro Community's boys thwarted a Cinderalla run by Franklin Academy in the 1A final, while River Mill's girls defeated Franklin Academy in the other final played at Durham's Voyager Academy.

'Clash at Capel' field finalized

After an NCAA ruling said that the formerly scheduled "Clash at Cameron" a non-scholastic event that could not played on the campus of Duke or N.C. Central, most of the original 36 teams have backed out.
 
The "Clash at Capel" -- as in Fayetteville State's home arena -- is scheduled for this Saturday with 20 teams. Eighteen of those teams are in-state schools.

Third round of NCHSAA boys soccer playoffs

It's the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association boys soccer playoffs, meaning each classification is down to just 16 teams total -- 8 in the East brackets.

Tigers and Wildcats to meet in 'The OC'

Chapel Hill and East Chapel Hill will play at 8 p.m. Thursday on the campus of Carrboro High School in the finals of The O.C. - an invitational soccer tournament that matched prep teams from Orange and Chtham counties.

Millbrook, Northwood added to Clash at Cameron

Millbrook and Northwood's boys and girls basketball teams have been added to the ever-expanding field at the Clash at Cameron, a one-day basketball tournament that will play 18 games at two sites -- Duke and North Carolina Central -- on Dec. 17.

3rd round of girls soccer playoffs

The third round of the NCHSAA girls soccer playoffs are set to begin Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, but weekend storms have kept two girls soccer games on the eastern half of the brackets from being completed until Monday night.
