A recent email to Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and the Town Council is a reminder of the existing tensions between Northside residents and UNC-Chapel Hill student renters.
The email, written by Bridgit Adamou on Aug. 6, petitions the council to add on-street parking options in the Northside neighborhood. Adamou says she is a Chapel Hill resident and UNC employee, who has been parking on Caldwell Street and walking to her office on Franklin Street.
Residents of the historically African American Northside community complained last year about problems related to the influx of student renters, which led to the Northside and Pine Knolls community plan adopted by the council in January.
One issue addressed in the plan was on street parking in the Northside community, which is near the Carrboro-Chapel Hill town line.
