Saturday marks 4th round of NCHSAA volleyball

Three rounds down, three more to go.

The NCHSAA volleyball playoffs are in the fourth round this Saturday, with each bracket down to eight teams in all and just four on the eastern half of the bracket.

We've posted what's left of the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets below. The host team is on top.

Who's still alive? Green Hope, Riverside, Cardinal Gibbons, Chapel Hill, South Granville, N.C. Science & Math and Princeton.

Third round of NCHSAA volleyball playoffs

The third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association volleyball playoffs will be played Thursday night. Below show who is left in the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets. In cases where teams have the same seed from different conferences, we've placed the host team on top.

There are several intriguing match-ups left in each area.

Second round of volleyball playoffs

Durham Riverside (24-2) will be at home against 2010 state champion Apex (19-4) in the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A volleyball tournament.

Below are the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets. In cases where teams have the same seed from different conferences, we've placed the host team on top.

Second round NCHSAA girls tennis match-ups

After Tuesday's first round, there are just a handful of area teams still alive in the NCHSAA girls team tennis playoffs. 

Here are next Tuesday's second-round matches in the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets. The headliner has to be in the 4A bracket, where the state's Nos. 1 and 2 teams -- Broughton and East Chapel Hill -- square off.

Winners of yesterday's first two rounds of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A individual girls tennis tournament, held at Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh, today's players were vying for seeding in next weekend's state tournament.

The first two rounds of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A individual girls tennis tournament was held Friday at Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh. Those who won both of their matches will play again Saturday for seeding in next weekend's state individual tournament.

The 2011 N.C. High School Athletic Association volleyball playoffs start this Saturday. Several Triangle-area teams are hosting first-round playoff games, including conference champions Garner, Cardinal Gibbons, Green Hope, Riverside, Princeton, South Granville, Bunn and Wakefield.

State dual team girls tennis playoffs begin tomorrow, brackets out

The NCHSAA girls tennis dual team playoffs begin Tuesday with matches involving nine Triangle-area teams in the 4A ranks and several other Triangle-are squads as well. Most matches begin at 4 p.m.

Preliminary brackets for boys soccer, volleyball and girls tennis

The NCHSAA has posted preliminary brackets for volleyball, boys soccer and girls tennis playoffs. All of these fall sport playoff brackets have a particular slot associated with each team's finish in the conference standings. There are also a limited number of wild-card spots.

National softball powers Alexander Central and North Davidson await Clayton and Holly Springs later tonight

The two teams that wait on the opposite of the 4-A final four brackets — Alexander Central and North Davidson — for Triangle-area schools Clayton and Holly Springs are medal-heavy veterans of the early June battles at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. They're also ranked among the top prep softball squads in the nation.
