Three Points from N.C. State's 91-83 win over North Carolina:

1) Lorenzo Brown is the best player in the ACC

Brown put on a clinic with 20 points and 11 assists against the Tar Heels. Through seven ACC games, the junior point guard averages 14.7 points, 8.7 assists and has made 53.8 percent of his 3-pointers.

Brown's outside shot had been a weakness before conference play, making just 6 of his first 24 3-pointers this season, but he has made 7 of 13 in league play, including both of his 3s on Saturday.

After Saturday's six-years-in-the-making win over North Carolina, it's at least the Wolfpack's Triangle. N.C. State handled the Tar Heels 91-83 in front of an electric, sold out crowd at PNC Arena.

With 20 points and 11 assists from junior guard Lorenzo Brown, No. 18 N.C. State ended a 13-game losing streak to the Tar Heels (13-6, 3-3 ACC), who had entered the game with 19 wins in 20 games in the series under coach Roy Williams.

N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried said he has talked to freshman forward T.J. Warren about the Twitter kerfuffle from earlier in the week and the two have moved on.

Former N.C. State player Thomas de Thaey was critical of Gottfried after Tuesday's 86-84 loss at Wake Forest.

"That's what happens when you're a great recruiter, but terrible coach!" de Thaey wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

N.C. State has lost 13 straight to North Carolina and 19 of 20 since coach Roy Williams replaced Matt Doherty in 2003.

For most of Williams' first nine seasons, UNC's wins have not been close, with the notable exception of the first game — a two-point UNC win in Chapel Hill — and the last one — a two-point UNC win in Atlanta in the ACC tournament.

Only five of the 19 losses have been by single digits, compared nine by 14 points or more. The average margin of victory for UNC in the 19 games is 13.2 points.

RALEIGH — N.C. State's loss at Wake Forest on Tuesday and defensive meltdown in the second half prompted a team meeting on Thursday.

Junior guard Lorenzo Brown did not provide too many details about the meeting other than the "nonsense" of the past three games — a loss at Maryland, a close home win over Clemson and the loss at Wake Forest — was addressed.

"There's been a lot of nonsense going on between us but we're all grown men," Brown said. "We sat down and talked it out. We're perfectly fine now."

Thomas de Thaey left the N.C. State program in November, but he took one last shot at his former coach on Wednesday morning.

In response to N.C. State's 86-84 loss at Wake Forest on Tuesday night, de Thaey wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday:

1) No one to blame but N.C. State

Let's get this out of the way: Referees Les Jones, Ed Corbett and Ted Valentine were not good on Tuesday. There were too many fouls called, 44 in all, and there was no consistency to the calls.

That being said, the refs were not the reason N.C. State lost the game, they're not even one of the top two reasons N.C. State lost the game. N.C. State lost because its defense was bad in the second half (Wake scored 51 points) and it couldn't make consecutive free throws or an open shot when it had to.

WINSTON-SALEM — N.C. State didn't know who Devin Thomas was before Tuesday's game. The Wolfpack does now.

With 25 points and 14 rebounds, Thomas led Wake Forest to an improbable 86-84 win over No. 18 N.C. State on Tuesday at Joel Coliseum. It was the second straight road loss for the Wolfpack and the second straight time an opposing fan base rushed the court.

Thomas, a freshman forward, made sure the Wake (10-8, 3-3 ACC) fans could celebrate their first win over in-state ACC opponent under third-year coach Jeff Bzdelik.

N.C. State has a short turn-around for Tuesday's trip to Wake Forest. The Wolfpack lost the back end of both of its two-games-in-three-days sets last season.

The Wolfpack beat Clemson 66-62 on Sunday at home and will play Wake Forest on Tuesday.

Last season, the Wolfpack beat Miami on Jan. 26 and then lost at UNC on Jan. 28. It then lost an emotional game at Duke on Feb. 16 and got flattened at home by Florida State on Feb. 18.

N.C. State basketball coach Mark Gottfried's not sure which cousin he will root for in the Super Bowl, Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers or John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens. Either way it will be a win for the extended family.

The Gottfrieds and Harbaughs are connected by blood and professionally. Mark Gottfried and the Harbaugh brothers are second cousins (their grandmothers, paternal on each side, were sisters).
