NCHSAA is waiting for the official reports before ruling on the altercation between the Southern Pines Pinecrest and Cameron Union Pines football teams. Both teams could be ineligible for the playoffs.

Cary dedicates gym

The Cary High gymnasium will be named in honor of former N.C. High School Athletic Association executive director Charlie Adams during ceremonies on Sunday, Aug. 15 at 3 p.m.

Science & Math second in 1-A all-sports

Durham Science & Math finished second in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A Wachovia Cup competition for overall sports. Kernersville Bishop McGuinness topped Science & Math 575-505.

Carrboro second in 2-A all-sports

Carrboro High finished second in the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 2-A Wachovia Cup competition for all-sports excellence. Salisbury topped the Jaguars 612.5-465.

Green Hope wins state all-sports award

Cary Green Hope High capped an outstanding high school athletic season by winning the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A Wachovia Cup for overall sports excellence.

NCHSAA changes football playoffs

A group of high school coaches and N.C. High School Athletic
Association staff developed a method conducting the state's 256-team
football playoffs on Tuesday.

The NCHSAA will be using a pod
system in the fall for the first time. In the past few years,
qualifying schools have been split into East and West divisions for the
early rounds.This fall, the schools will be divided into West, Midwest,
Mideast and East divisions.

Gibbons begins new volleyball era

new era of volleyball began Tuesday when Logan Barber was named as the Cardinal Gibbons coach.

Gibbons has been coached by Jim Freeman for the past 19 years. His teams have won 10 state titles and 400 matches.

Wilson Hunt falls in 3-A baseball finals

Wilson Hunt gave up eight innings in the first inning and lost its
second straight game to East Rowan, 15-10, in the N.C. High School
Athletic Association 3-A baseball championship series. East Rowan won the series two games to none.

North Davidson completes perfect season

North Davidson, Southwestern Randolph, Eastern Randolph and East
Surry win N.C. High School Athletic Association softball titles.

East Rutherford sweeps Graham

East Rutherford defeated Graham 4-3 on Saturday morning to complete a
two-game sweep and claim the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A
baseball championship at N.C. State's Doak Field.
