DURHAM -- Early last week, Duke coach David Cutcliffe said the Blue
Devils were not a "good" football team -- a candid remark that
represented the team's ineffectiveness and inconsistency in three
previous games.
On Saturday against N.C. Central, the Devils (2-2) made strides to
change their coaches' perspective, pounding the Eagles (0-4) when they
needed and capturing a 49-14 victory at Wallace Wade Stadium in the
first game between the neighboring schools.
Scheduling conflicts for two of the headliners have forced cancellation of the Moton, Noel and May Celebrity Golf Classic.
The event hosted by new N.C. Central University men's basketball LeVelle Moton and former
University of North Carolina basketball teammates David Noel and Sean
May had been scheduled for Aug. 17 at Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh.
N.C. Central basketball coach LeVelle Moton has announced the hiring of former Duke standout Robert Brickey as assistant coach with the Eagles.
Brickey comes to NCCU after a year with the women's basketball program at Duke as the assistant director of basketball operations.
As much as it seems like everyone but John Wall would like John Wall to hurry up and pick a college already, I applaud him for visiting N.C. Central today.
The recruitment of John Wall, the top high school basketball point guard recruit in the country, took another twist Thursday when Wall planned an unofficial visit to N.C. Central.
Wall has known and worked with new Eagles coach LeVelle Moton for years. Wall plans to visit the Durham campus on Friday.
They would have played at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
But rain the last four days has made DBAP unavailable for baseball.
So today's mid-week game between N.C. State and N.C. Central had to be moved to Doak Field. The game's at 6:30 p.m.
The MEAC's decision to lift its moratorium on expansion, paving the way for N.C. Central's entrance, is great news for the school.
Duke will play Durham neighbor North Carolina Central on Sept. 26 at Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium, school officials announced Friday.
"Anytime you have an opportunity to play against a team that you share the same city with, it’s like playing your brother," N.C. Central coach Mose Rison said in a statement.
