Final thoughts from Muriel Watson

Community blogger Muriel Watson writes: Starting weight as of Jan. 1, 2011--  326/ Current weight --  236. Goal weight: 185.
What prompted you to start a weight-loss program? A photo taken of me during our Thanksgiving dinner in November 2009. When I saw it, I cried the whole way home! I lost my weight by working out at the gym 6 days a week and eating a low carb/lean protein diet.

A makeover for me

At my last weigh in at Medi Weightloss Clinic, I was a little disappointed: I stayed the same weight as last week. I did lose 3 pounds of body fat, but I also had 3 extra pounds of water on me. I was really surprised because I have been following my new program at Planet Fitness and working out regularly, but I have had weeks like this before....usually once a month.  Enough said!

So, that just makes me even more determined to work harder. I will continue my workouts at Planet Fitness and my regular weekly appointments at Medi Clinic. Another coworker has started going to the gym with me.  Now, not only does Teresa continue to work out with me, so does Nancy. We have a lot of fun together!

We just found out that The News and Observer is giving us makeovers. I have never had an oppurtunity like this before and cannot wait.  Writing for the blog this year has been such a blessing to me.  It has helped me to face my fears -- the dreaded "number" and having to not only say it out loud, but  publish it in the paper for EVERYONE to be able to see!  I can still remember the first time my weight was published online and in the paper. I was so scared that my friends would see that number and somehow turn from me.  I was so embarrased and ashamed all at the same time.  However, it was because of my friends and family that kept me motivated to do this.

I truly believe that this blog is one of the main reasons I have been so succesful with the weight loss this year.  It has helped me to remain accountable for all my actions and to work hard to accomplish my weekly goals. I have had so many wonderful people come up to me at work about my blog, encouraging me and praising me on a job well done.  They help me to stay motivated because I don't want to let anyone down, especially myself.  I am now the closest I have ever been to reaching my goal of 185 pounds.  That is only 52 pounds away and it feels great!

I do still struggle with the self esteem issues and hope to one day over come them but that is going to take time for me.  I appreciate what people tell me and love them dearly for it!  However, I still see the 387 pound girl in the mirror and don't know what its going to take to get over that?!

Moving toward my goal

This week has been a busy one at work.  I had inventory this week and that in itself is a huge stresser for me.  However, rather than letting it get to me, I decided to prolong my workout rather than stress over the outcome.  I am still working out on the eliptical 100 minutes every day, with the exception of Tuesday.  That was the day I completed my inventory and the day I decided I needed some extra time to work out.  To me, working out is a great stress reliever.  I ended up doing 130 minutes on the eliptical, instead of the usual 100 minutes!  Afterwards, I felt great!

I lost another 6.5 pounds this past week! After my disappointing meeting last week, this week's weightloss made up for it all.

Last week I was rather disappointed because I had not lost any "overall weight".  I had lost 6 pounds of body fat, however I also had 6 pounds of extra water weight. My doctor and I agreed it was because I had chosen not to drink as much water (140 oz.).  Unfortunately, that backfired and caused me to retain even more fluid.  Needless to say, I have learned my lesson and continue to drink all 140 oz of water daily.

I am still keeping my food journal every day and recording all my work out times.  I am only 1.2 pounds away from meeting my next 30 pound goal with Medi Weightloss Clinic.  I hope to exceed that goal next week!  Once I do, then Medi Weightloss Clinic will take my next set of "after" pictures so that we can compare them to when I started there in August.

Overall as of this month, I have lost a total of 166 pounds since I began my weightloss journey back in November 2009.  It feels great to know that I am getting closer to my overall goal.  I used to think it would never be possible, but now I know it is not only possible, but also becoming a reality!

Surpassing expectations

My weekly weigh in at Medi-Clinic went even better than I could have hoped for.  I was astonished to find out that I had actually surpassed my own goal of 3-4 pounds per week.  I am very happy to say that I lost 7 pounds this week!  I have so much energy.  I love the way I feel now.  I can't ever imagine going back to what I used to be.

A peek inside my diary

Success is so sweet

I was worried with how it would go for my weigh in considering the fact that I had (store) inventory.  I work crazy hours during inventory, which makes it difficult to get to the gym those two days.  I was, however, still able to make it to the gym every day.  I must say I do love working out every day.  Never thought I would say that!  I feel so good afterwards and I have so much energy now.

I have to say how much I appreciate my friends and coworkers.  They have been there to support me through it all.  Teresa and Dana, among so many others,  are the best!  Teresa continues to go to the gym with me on a regular basis.  Dana is always there to talk me through my difficult times.  I have learned that our true friends can really make a difference in whether or not you fail or succeed  in life's ventures!

I have lost another 4 pounds this week, which means  I have now reached 42 pounds at Medi-Clinic  It feels great! I love this whole transformation of my body but I must say I have a hard time seeing the changes that every one else seems to see.  I get a lot of compliments now and have a hard time believing them.  I know they mean well, but self esteem is not something I am very good at.  I am still working through these issues and know that it will take time to heal.

I will be going back to Medi-Clinic Monday to get my midweek injections and then to the gym after.  Working hard towards the best results and excited to see less of me tommorrow.

Strategies that work for me

I went for my weigh in Thursday at Medi-Clinic.  I was so nervous about how that was going to turn out after spending the weekend at Great Wolf Lodge.  Well, looks like climbing all those stairs to enjoy the many water slides I went down must have worked in my favor.  I was ecstatic to find out that not only had I not gained, but I had actually lost weight!  I could not believe it!  I lost another 3.5  pounds and 4 more pounds of body fat!  That brings my total weight loss up to 38 pounds since the 8 weeks that I have been a member of Medi-Clinic.  I am so thankful for the wonderful staff there at the clinic.  I truly feel like this is the best program I have ever done.

The inches are melting away

Reaching a goal

Community blogger Muriel Watson writes:

This has been a good week.  I have been very loyal to my promise to myself to go to the gym every day this week.  I had a goal of 30 pounds in six weeks.  I knew that in order to meet this goal, I had to keep myself on track with the gym.  I have maintained my journaling and continue to write down every single thing I eat or drink.  I am sticking to the strict lean protein diet and it is working.  I drink 128 ounces of water every day and have been in ketosis since the first week.  I love this program.  It is so easy to follow and I am never hungry!

Stress and success

Community blogger Muriel Watson writes: First of all, I would like to apologize for not writing for so long.  I have had a family emergency which involved one of my children.  The situation is now better but we still have problems to work out through God's grace.  I hope you will understand and just continue to pray for my family.

As far as my weight loss goes, I have been steadily working on it throughout this situation.  One thing about being an emotional eater, your stress will either trigger you to eat more or it triggers you to stop eating.  In my situation, it has gone both ways.  Two months ago, when this all happened, I gained at first.  My weight went back up to over 300 pounds and my heart broke.  I knew I was killing myself and just making it worst by eating.  I had mentioned before that I was considering lap band or gastric bypass surgery.  That is still an option at this point, but I am hoping not to need either.

I was reading my emails one night and saw an ad for a great deal on Medi Weight Loss Clinic.  This program is completely run by doctors and I decided to give it one last try.  I am so glad that I did.  This program not only works with the medical part of losing weight but also the emotional end of eating.  I started the program five weeks ago.  When I started the program, I weighed 303 pounds.  I am in my sixth week now and have lost 26.8 pounds.  I am now down to 275!  I weigh in every Thursday and my first goal with the program is 30 pounds in six weeks.  As of today, I am 3.2 pounds and four days away from meeting that goal.  I love this program and how easy it is to follow.

Thank you for taking time out of your life to spend with me in mine!  Thank you for caring and thank you for your understanding and prayers.  God Bless!
