What to Watch on Wednesday: 'Idol' winner named: Will Scotty win?

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - The winning singer is named tonight. Odds are that the winner will be Garner's own Scotty McCreery, but you just. never. know. Georgia's Lauren Alaina has been a strong contestant, too. Before the big moment, there will be a reunion of the Top 13 contestants from this season (I've already forgotten anyone past the Top 6) and the iconic rock band U2 will perform with actors from the "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" Broadway catastrophe. I mean show. Broadway show. One last time, Go Scotty!

The Middle (8pm, ABC) - It's finale night for all of ABC's Wednesday night sitcoms, even the very funny "Happy Endings," which just started a few weeks ago. On "The Middle," Axl hasn't completed his 30 days of community service and Sue has to prove she's never taken a sick day to get a perfect attendance award. On "Modern Family," Jay wants to spend his birthday fishing but his family wants a big party, which leads to Claire and Mitchell getting trapped in the yard of their childhood home and Cameron getting into trouble at the bakery. And in a one-hour finale for "Cougar Town," Travis moves to Hawaii and the gang uses that as an excuse to take a vacation there, though they're really on a mission to convince him to come home. On "Happy Endings," a surprise invitation to the wedding of an old slacker buddy leads Brad and Jane to uncover something disturbing about their marital status, and a depressed Penny asks Derrick to be her date and pretend they're engaged.

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (10pm, CBS) - This one didn't make it, so tonight's season finale is actually a series finale. In this last episode, a serial killer is shooting people in crowded places and Beth's life is threatened when she goes undercover with Prophet.

Law & Order: Los Angeles (10pm, NBC) - It's not a finale, but it's one of the few non-repeats on tonight. In this episode, the murder of a casino worker exposes an argument that occurred before the crime and an admission from the victim's girlfriend that complicates the case.

What to Watch on Wednesday: 'Idol' visits Garner, hopefuls sing three

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - Tonight we get to see Scotty's hometown visit to Garner, which "Idol" filmed aaalllllll day long this past Saturday. Then Haley, Scotty, and Lauren each sing three songs: one chosen by the judges, one chosen by mentor Jimmy Iovine, and one of their own choosing. We know Scotty is singing Kenny Rogers' "She Believes in Me" as the judges' choice. Some fan sites are reporting that Scotty will also sing "You'll Think of Me" (Keith Urban) and "What Hurts the Most" (Rascal Flatts) -- but it's all rumors at this point, no one who really knows is saying...

Criminal Minds (9pm, CBS) - In the sixth season finale, the team hunts for a human-trafficking ring and J.J. returns to the BAU.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - The family gathers at Jay's house before going to Alex's middle school graduation, but they're in danger of missing the ceremony thanks to a perfect storm of problems: Jay tries to hide a cosmetic snafu, Cameron thinks Mitchell is mocking him, and Phil keeps reminding Claire that the kids are getting older.

America's Next Top Model (9pm, CW) - The season ends with the two final models shooting a CoverGirl commercial and walking their last runway before judges choose a winner.

Law & Order: SVU (10pm, NBC) - In the Season 12 finale, a rape-trial witness is murdered before she's able to testify, so Benson and Stabler look for links between her homicide and the rape case, and uncover some surprising relationships.

Happy Endings (10pm, ABC) - This show just got picked up for another season! Tonight, in an episode that seems wildly out of order with the others which have already aired, Dave moves into Max's place and in a moment of drunken inspiration, the two decide to track down the guy who spirited Alex away from the doomed wedding ceremony.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Time to get your 'Happy Endings'

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - Scotty, James, Lauren, and Haley perform the tunes of the influential 1950s songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. They wrote songs that became hits for Elvis Presley, The Coasters, The Drifters, and Ben E. King. Kudos to 'Idol' for recognizing their significant contribution to rock and roll, but really? Also, Lady Gaga is the guest mentor (apparently Doris Day was busy).

Better With You (8:30pm, ABC) - In the Season 1 finale, Mia goes into labor and suddenly decides she and Casey should be married when the baby is born. Cue scramble.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - Phil and Claire reverse their respective "good cop, bad cop" roles and throw the kids for a loop. Also, Cameron comes down with the flu and Mitchell's plans to attend a Lady Gaga concert are threatened.

Happy Endings (10pm, ABC) - Two back-to-back new episodes again this week. This show is really funny and I won't stop harping on it till you watch. I already let your complacency cost me "Perfect Couples." In the first episode, Dave and Alex must decide what to do about the his-and-her tattoos they got when they were a couple. In the second episode, Penny dates a teacher Dave admires and discovers he's not as wonderful as everyone thinks.

They aren't exactly impressed with the parenting they observe: Jay using "tough love" with Manny, and Claire secretly taking Luke to a child psychologist. NOTE: All of the ABC sitcoms are new tonight and run 8 - 11 p.m. 'Cougar Town' is back in their normal 9:30 time slot and there are two new episodes of the very good 'Happy Endings' starting at 10 p.m.

Nathan Lane guest stars.

Mr. Sunshine (9:30pm, ABC) - This Matthew Perry sitcom has been spotty, but I'm sticking for now. Tonight, Ben teams with Alonzo to play tennis great Jimmy Connors and actor Fred Savage in a celebrity tennis tournament. Ben reveals his past with Alice to Alonzo, and a careless act on Crystal's part inadvertently brings her closer to her son, Roman.

Justified (10pm, FX) - The FBI flags the $100 bill that Winona had stolen, and Raylan does what he can to protect her. Meanwhile, the coal company hires Boyd to provide security at a civil trial in which the company is being sued by the family of a dead anti-mining activist.

Then, they must cook a supper for celebrity chefs Masaharu Morimoto, Wolfgang Puck, and Michelle Bernstein. One chef is eliminated and the finale will be next week. After the last two eliminations, I no longer care who wins.
