Update, 1 p.m. Saturday — Coach Ben Kolstad said White is "improving drastically" and is in stable condition at WakeMed Hospital.
Kolstad also said that White was treated close to the end of the scrimmage, so while the scrimmage did not stop while White was being treated, the scrimmage was over shortly thereafter.
It was then coaches and players were aware of the severity of the incident.
Noon, Saturday — WakeMed Hospital has now confirmed White is in fair condition.
Although sources had said White was doing better this morning, the hospital had still listed him in critical.
Saturday, 1 a.m. — Cary sophomore Michael White, who collapsed Friday night during a preseason football scrimmage at Wakefield High, is listed in critical condition at WakeMed Hopsital as of 1 a.m.
Cary coach Ben Kolstad confirmed there were points in which White had stopped breathing and did not have a pulse. A defibrillator and CPR were both used to revive White at the scene.
Kolstad added that White was talking with teammates on the sidelines when he collapsed without warning.
White had been previously been listed in fair condition earlier in the night. We will continue updating this blog as the condition of White changes.
