America's Got Talent (9pm, NBC) - Twelve previously eliminated acts return to perform for a chance at a wildcard spot.

Melissa & Joey (8pm, ABC Family) - The premiere of a traditional sitcom (by traditional we mean it's essentially an updated "Who's the Boss") featuring former child actors Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence (who is not nearly as cute with that shaved head). A second episode airs at 8:30.

What to Watch on Tuesday: "Two Escobars" examines soccer and violence

30 for 30: The Two Escobars (9pm, ESPN) - A two-hour documentary from Jeff and Michael Zimbalis examining the influence of drugs in the world of Colombian soccer. Downfall (9pm, ABC) - Right after "Wipeout" ABC premieres a new game show in which contestants atop at ten-story building answer trivia questions to keep a conveyor belt from dumping prizes over the side of the building. This sounds stupid, so it'll probably be a huge hit.

Memphis Beat (10pm, TNT) - A new crime drama starring Jason Lee as an offbeat Memphis detective whose style irritates his boss (Alfre Woodard). In the opening episode Det. Dwight he investigates the abuse of an elderly female disc jockey. Should you watch? Check out Adrienne's review.

The rhythm's off a bit on the "Memphis Beat"

Sometimes watching a TV show about the South when you're living in the South can be a burden. Even a Northern transplant like me gets bugged by a labored Southern accent, gets hung up on whether the location is actually the South  or not, and recognizes when the quirkiness (there's always quirkiness) gets a little too thick.

All of that went through my mind as I watched "Memphis Beat" (TNT, 10 p.m. Tuesdays), a promising, but unfocused series about a quirky (see I told you) Memphis detective who loves his city and his Elvis.
