Today's giveaway offers a historical perspective

Who would think that there was an entertaining way to combine genealogy and celebrity? And yet that's exactly what "Who Do You Think You Are?" has managed.

This seven-episode DVD of the NBC show is our latest giveaway. You'll get nearly 300 minutes of history and family tree-shaking news, featuring the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Emmitt Smith, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Broderick, Brooke Shields, Susan Sarandon and Spike Lee.  The episodes take you from the Salem witch trials to the shores of Benin. Not a bad journey.

Plus, to bring the whole thing to life, we're throwing in a copy of "Who Do You Think You Are? Be a Family Tree Detective," an interactive book you can share with your kids. It's got great illustrations, and things to open, lift and pull-out to teach genealogy in an engaging way.

Interested? Send an email by midnight (12/9) and we'll have a random drawing. It's a great way to see what's shaking in your family tree!

Tracing celebrity family trees doesn't bear much fruit

Genealogy gets some celebrity cache in "Who Do You Think You Are," premiering tonight on NBC at 8.

Each week show tracks the family history of a celebrity. The seven are: Matthew Broderick, Lisa Kudrow (who produced the show), Spike Lee, Sarah Jessica Parker, Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields and Emmitt Smith.

Although the show seems a rip-off of "Faces of America," the PBS specials Harvard professor Skip Gates has hosted, it's actually based on a British hit.
