After dominating at the AAA level this year by hitting .313, 18 home runs and 63 RBI, Apex graduate Matt Mangini was called up to Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners yesterday.

Mangini graduated Apex High in 2004 and played for N.C. State initially. He later transferred to Oklahoma State and was the 52nd overall draft pick in the 2007 MLB Draft.

Mangini is the second Apex grad in MLB. Oakland Athletics catcher Landon Powell graduated from Apex in 2000.
