Elaine Bushfan, chief District Court judge for Durham County, has told Bull's Eye she intends to run for a Superior Court seat in this spring's election.
And four of her current colleagues plan to run for re-election, according to a statement released Monday night by District Court Judge Marcia Morey.
Morey (right) announced her plan to seek a fourth term Monday,as well as the re-election candidacies of current District judges James T. Hill, Nancy E. Gordon and Brian Wilks.
Eleven-year District Court veteran Judge Ann McKown does not plan to run again, according to Morey.
Six Durham District Court seats are up for election in 2010, along with three Superior Court seats, four Durham Public Schools Board positions, all six General Assembly seats and numerous other local and statewide offices. No City Council or county commissioner seats are on this year's ballot.
Candidate filing opens at noon Feb. 8 and closes at noon Feb. 26. The partisan primary and School Board election is May 4 with a second primary and School Board runoff June 22, if necessary.
The general election is Nov. 2.
