What to Watch on Friday: Networks plan special primetime coverage from Aurora

Aurora Shooting Coverage: In addition to special coverage on tonight's 6:30 newscasts, the major networks are planning additional coverage of the last night's mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Here's what I've seen so far: CBS anchor Scott Pelley will lead a special edition of "48 Hours" at 8. For NBC, Ann Curry will report live from Aurora on "Dateline," airing at 9. ABC will have a special edition of "20/20" anchored by Chris Cuomo from Aurora and Diane Sawyer from New York, tonight at 10. There's a special edition of "Nightline" on ABC at 11:35. On CNN, Anderson Cooper will broadcast "AC360" from Aurora at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.  On Fox, "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" will cover the shooting at 10, with Van Susteren reporting from Aurora. Chris Jansing will have special reports from Colorado at 4 and 10 on MSNBC.

Whale Wars (9pm, Animal Planet) - In the Season 5 finale, the Sea Shepherd's months-long search for the Nisshin Maru finally pays off, but the factory ship is well protected and won't give up without a fight.

Common Law (10pm, USA) - Wes and Travis share quarters during a stakeout to monitor the moves of a crime novelist, who may have helped a criminal escape prison.

Louisiana Lockdown (10pm, Animal Planet) - In the Season 1 finale, a rookie rider takes on a former champion as the rodeo season nears its conclusion. Also, an inmate learns he's getting out after 18 years in prison.

Lost Girl (10pm, Syfy) - Bo accepts the Ash's proposal and acquires an unlikely partner.

Comedy Bang! Bang (10pm, IFC) - Guest Ed Helms plays the banjo and makes animal noises.

Portlandia: The Brunch Special (11pm, IFC) - A director's cut of the Season 2 finale, with a "making of" segment, and appearances by Bobby Flay, Lorne Michaels and Kyle MacLachlan.

What to Watch on Friday: 'John Leguizamo's Tales From a Ghetto Klown'

Deadliest Catch (8pm, Discovery) - In two episodes, ice creates problems on the opilio-crab grounds, prompting some captains to leave, and one of the vessels suffers a blackout.

Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse (9pm, TBS) - In the Season 2 opener, questions about fidelity still plague Marcus and Angela's relationship, and Tyrik lands a job renovating the salon.

The Ricky Gervais Show (9pm, HBO) - Topics in the Season 3 finale include Karl's thoughts on the insect world and his diary entries about cutting avocados.

John Leguizamo's Tales from a Ghetto Klown (10pm, UNC-TV) - Actor-playwright John Leguizamo's rise to success is chronicled in this profile, which features remarks from him, his family and friends. The documentary also examines his decision to take his one-man Broadway play, "Ghetto Klown," to his native Colombia.

Common Law (10pm, USA) - Wes and Travis investigate a cop's shooting and take care of the injured officer's police dog.

Louisiana Lockdown (10pm, Animal Planet) - Slater's marriage ends after 10 years, making him a single father. Meanwhile, an inmate prepares for his first rodeo and a former champion is ready to ride again.

Chasing UFOs (10pm, NGC) - Ryder, Ben and james visit the alleged UFO crash site in Roswell, New Mexico.

What to Watch on Friday: A K-9 manhunt on 'Louisiana Lockdown'

The Ricky Gervais Show (9pm, HBO) - Topics include Ricky and Stephen watching soccer's World Cup while sharing a hotel bed and the problems of overzealous sports fans.

20/20: Heaven - Where is It? How Do We Get There? (9pm, ABC) - Barbara Walters explores the meaning of heaven with religius leaders, scientists, people who say they've been there, celebrities who are vocal about their beliefs, and with terrorists.

Louisiana Lockdown (10pm, Animal Planet) - A nighttime manhunt requires a K-9 unit. Also, a prison wedding is planned but it must have the warden's approval, and an inmate hopes his hard work will get him out of the disciplinary unit.

Chasing UFOs (10pm, NGC) - The visits Colorado's San Luis Valley, a hot spot for UFO sightings, to investigate reports of animal mutations and alien abductions. A man who claims to have been abducted by aliens shares his story.

Comedy Bang! Bang (10pm, IFC) - Seth Rogen talks about going on vacation, and Reggie paints a portrait of Scott.

Randy to the Rescue (10pm, TLC) - Randy is in Dallas to urge an overprotective father to let his daughter wear a strapless ball gown with her cowboy boots. Meanwhile, two women, including a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, confront their uncompromising mothers.

What to Watch on Friday: National Geographic investigates UFO mysteries

Celebrity Vacation Homes (9pm, HGTV) - A new series that features tours of posh holiday retreats looks at President Obama's vacation home in Oahu, Jennifer Aniston's Mexican villa in Los Cabos, and Pamela Anderson's Malibu beach house.

Chasing UFOs (9pm, NGC) - The press release for this new show provided my favorite wacky fact of the week: "A National Geographic Channel survey finds that two-thirds of Americans think Barack Obama is better suited to handle an alien invastion than Mitt Romney." I kinda love that people have opinions about that! But about the show ... "Chasing UFOs" is a new National Geographic Channel series in which a team of investigators -- comprised of a believer, a skeptic and an undecided -- look into alien-related mysteries. The first episode probes mysterious lights in the sky over two Texas towns. A second episode at 10 looks at claims the government uses alien aircraft to spy on citizens in central California.

Common Law (10pm, USA) - Travis and Wes swap lives during an exercise to help them better understand one another. Though the experience puts a strain on their relationship, it also ends up shedding light on a case they're working.

Mariachi High (10pm, UNC-TV) - A documentary tracking a year in the life of Mariachi Halcon, a top-ranked high school mariachi band from Zapata High in Zapata, Texas.

Louisiana Lockdown (10pm, Animal Planet) - A man meets his grandson for the first time when they are both behind bars, and a deceased inmate is buried in the prison's cemetery.

What to Watch on Friday: A live Niagara Falls highwire attempt

Megastunts: Highwire Over Niagara Falls (9pm, ABC) - Live coverage of daredevil Nik Wallenda (at right in an Associated Press photo) as he attempts to walk a tightrope across Niagra Falls, a feat that has been banned since 1890.

Fairly Legal (9pm, USA) - In the Season 2 finale, Kate looks into the firing of a lesbian couple and uncovers a scandal that could involve DA Davidson.

The Ricky Gervais Show (9pm, HBO) - Topics include the origins of the universe and the evolution of creatures other than humans.

Common Law (10pm, USA) - The guys investigate a series of home invasions by a group of thieves and learn that Travis' foster brother could be their leader.

Louisiana Lockdown (10pm, Animal Planet) - An infiltration of drugs tests the security staff's ability to enforce the rules, and an assistant warden tries to find a balance between work and motherhood.

Comedy Bang! Bang! (10pm, IFC) - Amy Poehler is confronted about her hair and her feud with Mad Magazine.

What to Watch on Friday: Succumbing to Travis' charms on 'Common Law'

Whale Wars (9pm, Animal Planet) - A ship is spotted on the horizon by the Steve Irwin that may be the Japanese whaler's factory ship.

Fairly Legal (9pm, USA) - Justin puts his election in jeopardy when he introduces Kate to a Brazilian singer and activist.

Common Law (8pm, USA) - I'm a recent convert to this show and it's not just because Michael Ealy (aka Travis, right) is so funny and adorable. But that certainly doesn't hurt things. Tonight, Travis' ex-partner causes friction between the guys when they receive a special assignment to stop a crime ring responsible for stealing high-end vehicles.

Louisiana Lockdown (10pm, Animal Planet) - The first rodeo of the season has the inmates psyching themselves up  to ride, but the prison's mood changes after a tragedy in Camp J that presents a big test for the staff.

Coming Home (10pm, Lifetime) - A sailor surprises his son at Sea World on the boy's 11th birthday. Have tissues handy.

DC Cupcakes: Takes New York (10pm, TLC) - Georgetown Cupcake considers opening a shop in New York City. Why are cupcake shows still on the air?

What to Watch on Friday: 'Whale Wars' returns with new reality shows in its wake

Whale Wars (8pm, Animal Planet) - Highlights of the last four seasons are shown before the Season 5 premiere airs at 9. In that episode, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society responds to Japan's 2011 announcement to resume its whaling operations in the Antarctic and the government's promise to beef up the fleet's security.

Fairly Legal (9pm, USA) - Kate and Ben go to Lake Tahoe to settle a dispute but end up caught up in an unsolved murder. Elsewhere, Lauren offers to help Justin with a case that could damage his political future.

Common Law (10pm, USA) - A woman's murder could have ties to a dating website. During the investigation, Wes discovers that his ex has started dating and has a profile on the same site.

Louisiana Lockdown (10pm, Animal Planet) - A new reality series set at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, which features and a working farm and, since 1965, the Angola Prison Rodeo. Animal connection: Warden Burl Cain tries to rehabilitate some of the hardened criminals the chance to work outside with animals.

Alaska: Ice Cold Killers (10pm, Discovery) - The start of a new series that examins homicide cases in Alaska. Way to go, Alaska! Tonight, serial killer Robert Hansen is examined.
