What to Watch on Thursday: A Lionel-less 'Duets' debuts

Duets (8pm, ABC) - The premiere of yet another singing competition. This one previously had Lionel Richie attached, but after news broke that Richie owed the IRS some money, he suddenly had "scheduling conflicts" and was replaced by John Legend. And with that change, the show went -- for me -- from "must see" to "not really interested." The competition now has Kelly Clarkson, Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke searching for amateur singers to perform duets with. You know who sang the greatest duet of all time? Lionel Richie ("Endless Love" with Diana Ross).

So You Think You Can Dance (8pm, Fox) - Season 9 begins with auditions in Dallas and New York.

Awake (10pm, NBC) - In the series (nooo!) finale, Britten faces off against his conspirators as the entire police force moves in on him.

Rookie Blue (10pm, ABC) - In the Season 3 premiere, Andy returns to work following her three-month suspension. Later, a car accident caused by a drunken driver (William Shatner) leads to the reopening of a 7-year-old cold case.

J. Crew and the Man Who Dressed America (10pm, CNBC) - David Faber reports on the J. Crew clothing retailer, including the company's process of conceiving, creating and marketing a new line of clothing. Interviews with J. Crew's CEO Mickey Drexler and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour. Here's Adrienne's review.

Men at Work (10pm, TBS) - A new sitcom about four male friends working together at a magazine while also working their way through the challenges of life, love, etc., etc. Here's the review.

What to Watch on Friday: Hello, is it Lionel Richie you're looking for?

Shark Tank (8pm, ABC) - Someone actually pitches a t-shirt product with inspirational messages that become visible when the wearer perspires. Hoping at least one of the messages is: "Hello. Is it me you're looking for?"

Who Do You Think You Are (8pm, NBC) - This episode is a repeat, but it's a good one, and since I'm declaring it unofficially "Lionel Richie Night" on Happiness is a Warm TV, I'm asking that you watch. Lionel Richie charts his family history by focusing on his grandmother's ancestry.

ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends in Concert (9pm, CBS) - The great Lionel Richie performs duets of his hits with Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, and Kenny Rogers. Other country stars -- like Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum -- perform Richie songs on their own.

Fairly Legal (9pm, USA) - Kate tries to help a bankrupt client, who is not Lionel Richie, and who is also dealing with a drug-dealer tenant.

Also tonight, Budget Blinds CEO Chad Hallock works undercover at his window-coverings company on CBS's "Undercover Boss" at 8 p.m. You know where budget blinds look really good? In a Brick House.

Goodnight everybody!

What to Watch on Friday: Colin Powell honored at NAACP Image Awards

NAACP Image Awards (8pm, Fox) - Wayne Brady and Holly Robinson Peete host the 42nd annual gala, which honors achievements in the arts by people of color. Tyler Perry leads the field with 19 nominations. General Colin Powell (left) receives the President's Award for public service in the cause of civil rights. Fayetteville, N.C., native Affion Crockett is scheduled to appear.

Who Do You Think You Are (8pm, CBS) - Lionel Richie tracks his family history, focusing on his maternal grandmother's ancestry.

The Defenders (8pm, CBS) - Nick and Pete defend the son of a hotel owner who is accused of strangling a casino host in a hot tube. Meanwhile, a comic (Kathy Griffin) is sued for insulting an audience member.

Supernatural (9pm, CW) - Sam and Dean search for a deadly monster created by the Mother of All and are assisted in their hunt by Bobby and Samuel.

Ricky Gervais Show (9pm, HBO) - Topics include Karl's ideal height, a poem from Karl's diary about a bout with kidney stones, and Stephen's evening at a club in London.

Real Time with Bill Maher (10pm, HBO) - Guests are T.C. Boyle, Gloria Steinem, Gavin Newsom, Ezra Klein.

What to Watch on Saturday: From Betty White to Lionel Richie

Screen Actors Guild Awards (8pm, TBS) - Shoved onto cable on a
Saturday night, the SAG awards get no love from the networks, but it's
still one of my favorites. Presenters include George Clooney, Meryl
Streep
, Alec Baldwin, and Jane Lynch. Sandra Bullock will present the Life Achievement Award to Betty White.

The Pregnancy Pact (9pm, Lifetime) -  A blogger investigates a rash of teen pregnancies at her old high school, and rumors swirl about a pregnancy pact between girls.

The Deep End (9pm, ABC) - If you missed the premiere of ABC's new legal drama on Thursday (think of it as a "Grey's Anatomy" with lawyers), you can catch the repeat tonight.

Evening of Stars (Midnight, WGN) - The 31st Annual UNCF fundraiser pays tribute to Lionel Richie (Yes, I had that album on the right and wore it slap out. Truly.). Performers on the show include Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Akon, Ledisi, Jessie McCartney, James Ingram, Brian McKnight, Boney James, and Katharine McPhee. "Evening of Stars" repeats on BET Sunday night at 10pm.
