What to Watch on Tuesday: 'Pioneers of Television' calls the cops

Pioneers of Television (8pm, UNC-TV) - If you consider yourself a fan of television, there's really no excuse for not watching this great series. The third installment of the season is about a genre near and dear to my heart -- crime dramas. Groundbreaking shows like "Dragnet," "The Untouchables," "I Spy," "Police Woman," "Columbo," and "The Rockford Files" are examined. Look for interview clips featuring Mike Connors ("Mannix"), Bill Cosby and Robert Culp ("I Spy"), Angie Dickinson ("Police Woman") and James Garner ("Rockford Files").

Frontline: Post Mortem (9pm, UNC-TV) - Lowell Bergman reports on the declining number of autopsies being performed in the U.S. and the shortage of competent forensic pathologists. Here's our review.

Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? (9pm, WeTV) - Joan appears on a game show while Melissa considers a business offer. Also, Joan picks out a dowdy uniform for the hot, half-naked nanny Dominca, and decides to redecorate Melissa's living room.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - John connects with an abandoned teen as he prepares to testify at his father's parole hearing, and Lydia and Josie handle a tricky rape case. But honestly, what I can't wait to see tonight is how everyone reacts to the tragic events from last week's episode. I won't give away details because certain people here at Warm TV are behind (for shame!). I wish I could force everyone to watch this show.

Detroit 1-8-7 (10pm, ABC) - Fitch is considered the prime suspect with local scumbag -- I mean, philanthropist -- Henry Malloy is murdered shortly after receiving the key to the city.

Lights Out (10pm, FX) - Unaware of the family's precarious financial situation (they are flat broke), Theresa pledges $50,000 for a clinic in Haiti.

What to Watch on Tuesday: "Lights Out" can still be a contender

Pioneers of Television (8pm, UNC-TV) - This week looks at westerns, including "Maverick," "The Rifleman," "Gunsmoke," "Bonanza," "Big Valley," and "The Wild, Wild West." Remarks from James Garner, Linda Evans, and Robert Conrad. Also, a look at Fess Parker's work on "Davy Crockett" and "Daniel Boone." This series really is a must for TV fans.

State of the Union Address (9pm) - President Obama delivers his address before a joint session of Congress. He's expected to talk about the economy, job creation, and the 2011-1012 budget. This is airing pretty much everywhere: ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and UNC-TV.

Lights Out (10pm, FX) - While Johnny tries to persuade a promoter to give the gym's top fighter a title shot, Lights' daughters prepare a scrapbook for their father's 40th birthday party. Meanwhile, police discover that the MP3 player found on the body of a murdered robber belongs to Lights (Holt McCallany, right). Let me break it down: This show is excellent. Ratings are low. Catching up is easy. Watch it.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - John Shares procedural tips with Ben, including how to make a death notification. Meanwhile, Lydia and Josie tangle with an unorthodox suspect in a drug-related murder case, and Sammy crashes at Nate's as he sorts through his marital issues.

What to Watch on Tuesday: "White Collar" returns to further crowd 10 o'clock

Life Unexpected (8pm, CW) - The final two episodes of Season 2 (and quite possibly, the entire series) air tonight. In one, Baze prepares for a future with Emma, unaware of her secret past with his dad. Then Lux arranges a special meal for herself and Eric, but her parents find out and crash it. No official announcement on cancelation or a third season is expected until May. Charlotte native Britt Robertson plays Lux (left with her dad, Baze).

Pioneers of Television (8pm, UNC-TV) - The Season 2 premiere focues on three TV pioneers: Gene Roddenberry, Rod Serling, and Irwin Allen. Lots of interesting stuff and great interviews. Adrienne has more here.

The Good Wife (10pm, CBS) - Will fears his client isn't getting a fair trial because of the judge's biased attitude, so he hires a jury consultant who claims to be able to predict a case's outcome by reading people's expressions. Also, Will uncovers information regarding Bond's intent for the firm. NOTE!!!! There's a UNC vs. Clemson basketball game on right before this, so be extra cautious and set your recording devices to run late.

20/20: The Congresswoman and the Astronaut (10pm, ABC) - A special program about the relationship between Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly. Features a Diane Sawyers interview with Kelly.

White Collar (10pm, USA) - The show returns for the winter portion of its season (I know, it's confusing the way USA and TNT break up their seasons) with Peter suspended and wrongly accused by the FBI and trying to clear his name -- all while looking for Mozzie's shooter during a sting with Neal (Matt Bomer, right).

Lights Out (10pm, FX) - Lights is threatened with criminal charges and must do the bidding of a loan shark to make it all go away. Meanwhile, his daughter Daniella learns of his health problems. Note: Meredith Hagner, who grew up in Chapel Hill, plays another of Lights Leary's daughters: Eva.

Parenthood (10pm, NBC) - Adam adjusts to a new boss and worries about the future of his job, and Haddie turns to Amber for comfort when she reaches an impasse with her parents.
