A last-minute Thanksgiving shopper's guide to the cheapest prices

If you've waited this long to buy the ingredients for your Thanksgiving feast, you're likely to need all the help you can get.

So I walked the aisles of several Triangle stores today to find you the best prices on a few Thanksgiving staples: Turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberries (canned and fresh), and canned pumpkin.

Here's where I found the absolute rock-bottom prices on each:

In a few short weeks, pumpkin will be plentiful and presumably cheaper

A reader emailed me wondering why he was having such a hard time finding canned pumpkin in the grocery store.

"I recall buying canned pumpkin in the summer months before because I bake pumpkin chocolate chip cookies a few times each year," Don Sauer of Raleigh wrote.

Sauer remembered the pumpkin shortage of 2009 and wondered what was going on this year in the pumpkin world.
