Seminoles still stuck in second gear

Whatever Leonard Hamilton tries to sell you, don't buy it.

After speaking with the Florida State coach at ACC media day in Charlotte earlier this fall, I wrote that the Seminoles would try to push the pace this year to take advantage of the athletes Hamilton had so successfully been recruiting. And, uh, still waiting.

CHARLOTTE -- Is this the year Florida State takes advantage of the athletes Leonard Hamilton does such a good job of recruiting and picks up the pace offensively? Yes, Seminoles guard Derwin Kitchen says.

Of course, he’s the first to admit he said the same thing last year.

“Last year, we said we would run,” Kitchen said. “We never did.”

As always, Toney Douglas was carrying the Seminoles offensively (he finished with 25 points) and that's where the Seminoles went initially coming out of a timeout with 25 seconds to go down a point to the Jackets. But after Georgia Tech played some great defense on Douglas, forcing him to call a timeout with 10 seconds to go, Leonard Hamilton threw a curve.

Hamilton gets Coach K's vote

Mike Krzyzewski thinks Florida State's Leonard Hamilton has done the best coaching job in America this season.

Coach K said after Duke's 84-81 win over FSU on Tuesday that he voted for Hamilton, who has the Seminoles in position to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 11 years, for the NABC Coach of the Year.
