Area College Football Update: Snead scores first collegiate TD; locals help Campbell to win in opener

It was a big Saturday of action on the college football scene for former Johnston County standouts. A look around at who did what in their debuts...

Former Smithfield-Selma and South Johnston running back Josh Snead scored his first career collegiate touchdown in his first appearance for Duke University on Saturday. Snead scored on an 3-yard run in the Blue Devils' 41-27 victory over Elon. Snead carried the ball seven times, gaining 29 yards on the night. His longest run was eight yards.

Former Smithfield-Selma standout Lee Stanley led Campbell's defense with 13 tackles in a 20-16 victory over UVA Wise on Saturday in Buies Creek. Stanley is a redshirt senior captain for the Camels. Campbell's roster also includes local former standouts Tyler Dean and Sam Eberwein of Clayton, Alex Green and Andy Johnson of SSS and Cohen Ruffin of West Johnston.
