Alumni News: Powell catches perfect game

If you watch the highlights from Oakland A's pitcher Dallas Braden recording the 19th perfect game in MLB history, you'll see Apex alumn Landon Powell. That's because Powell was behind the plate calling Braden's pitches, which puts him in an elite club of catchers who have ever caught a perfect game.

To read more on how Powell was the "perfect catch" for Branden, here's a link to a MLB.com story:

"Landon and I -- that's seamless," Braden said. "We've come up
together. The guy's rock solid back there. I might have shaken [him
off] once today. The guy knows my game inside and out."

Powell has nice debut

Former Apex High standout Landon Powell made his major league debut on Saturday. And he made his first at-bat count.

Alumni News: Two local players on MLB rosters

Former Athens Drive player Josh Hamilton is with the Texas Rangers (in case you've been living under a rock for the past year), but now he's got some local company in the AL West now that Apex High's Landon Powell is breaking into the big leagues with the Oakland Athletics.
