Q&A with the Centsible Saver

Q&A with the Centsible Saver is an occasional feature on the blog. If you have a question for a future Q&A, leave it at the bottom of this post or email it to adunn@newsobserver.com. Ask me anything about coupons, rebates, saving money and living the frugal life.

This time around I've got questions about online coupon-printing sites, the liklihood of Super Double or Triple coupon promotions at Kroger and the best way to get multiple copies of coupons for items you regularly purchase.

Kroger giving away free reusable shopping totes

The Earth Day festivities continue....

Kroger is celebrating Earth Day all month long by giving away free reusable shopping totes.

Submit a design for a tote and you'll receive a free bag for your efforts.

If the "design" requirement has you stumped, don't worry. Kroger's made it easy on you.

Sunday deals are up (April 22-28)

This week's Sunday circulars contain some stellar deals: milk for under $3 a gallon at Kroger and Walgreens, a steal of a deal on olive oil at CVS, good produce prices at Kroger and bargain prices on Kellogg's cereals at Rite Aid.
But my favorite deal of the week is at CVS, where the store will actually pay YOU to buy greeting cards.
Read on for all the very best deals at CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Kroger.  And, as always, please post any great deals you spot so we can all save more.

Wednesday deals (April 18-24)

Dueling Super Double coupon events dominate the grocery deals this week. Both Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods are offering special one-week promotions that double the value of coupons up to $1.98 in face value.

Beyond Super Doubles, it's a light week for deals, though there are a few bargains worth an extra trip to the store.

Among the deals that caught my eye:

  • Milk for $2.69 per gallon at Aldi!
  • Store-brand bacon for $1.79 at Lowes Foods.
  • Store-brand ice cream BOGO at Harris Teeter.
  • 80% lean ground beef for $2.49 a pound at Harris Teeter.
  • Split chicken breasts for 99 cents a pound at Lowes Foods.
  • Deli turkey breast for $3.99 a pound at Food Lion.
  • Sweet corn for 19 cents an ear at Kroger.

Read on for all the highlights. For easy comparison, I've also included Sunday's Kroger deals at the bottom of the post.

As always, feel free to add any great deals you spot while you're out and about shopping. That way, we can all save more.

Sunday deals are up (April 15-21)

All the drugstores have freebies up for grabs this week but at Walgreens, some of the deals are even better than free. With the right coupons, Walgreens will pay YOU to shop -- more than $6.50 on two items!
At Kroger, there are good deals on chicken, meat and produce, especially the 19-cent sweet corn.

Happy shopping, and, as always, please post any great deals you spot so we can all save more.

(If you haven't done your Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods or Food Lion shopping for the week yet, you can find those deals, good through Tuesday, here.)

Two new prescription deals at Triangle stores

Two stores in the Triangle are offering generous rewards for prescription transfers.

So if you don't mind transferring a prescription from one store to another, you can score yourself an extra $25 in spending money.

Deal alert: More cheap milk this week

Need milk?

You're in luck.

Kroger has milk on sale through Saturday for $2.88 per gallon -- the latest in a string of milk deals in the Triangle.

It's not quite as good as the milk deal at Aldi, where a gallon is just $2.69 through Tuesday.

But anytime you can score a gallon for under $3, you've gotten a good deal.

Sunday deals are up (April 8-14)

Free razors, free toothbrushes, 24-cent toothpaste and 49-cent deodorant are among the deals you can snag this week at the drugstores and Kroger.
Walgreens has the new Pepsi Next for just $1.99 per 12-pack, and with the right coupons, Rite Aid has a nice deal on Softsoap products.
Kroger is offering some solid produce deals as well as split chicken breasts for 99 cents per pound.

Also take note that Kroger has milk on sale for $2.88 per gallon, which is not quite as low as Aldi's price ($2.69 through Tuesday) but still a terrific deal.

Happy shopping, and, as always, please post any great deals you spot so we can all save more.

(If you haven't done your Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods or Food Lion shopping for the week yet, you can find those deals, good through Tuesday, here.)

We have a winner in the $25 Kroger gift card giveaway

While I was away, I asked you folks if you were in the mood for a giveaway.

Silly question.

Your response was overwhelming. It seems pretty much everyone is in the mood to win a $25 gift card to Kroger.

So, without further ado, here's our winner:

Coupons 101: A guide to calling corporate

When using coupons to save your family money, you may, from time to time, run into a sticky situation.

It's always best to try to resolve a problem or get a question answered on the spot while you're still in the store. That's part of a manager's job and he or she should be happy to help you.

But if you don't get satisfaction, the corporate headquarters of your grocery store or drugstore wants to hear from you.

So go ahead and give them a call.
