NBC-17 reporter hired as Gov. McCrory's communications director

WNCN announced today that political reporter Kim Genardo has been hired as the communications director for Governor Pat McCrory.

On the WNCN website, the station's news director Andrea Parquet-Taylor said of Genardo "She has made a mark in this community by making it her business to know the Legislature inside and out. We wish Kim well in her new endeavor."

Genardo has worked as an anchor and reporter at WNCN, also known as NBC-17, since 1998. Prior to that, she was a weekend anchor at WGHP in Greensboro. Genardo graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

She is married and has two children.

McCrory's former communications director Chris Walker left the post a few weeks ago after less than a month in the position. Walker said at the time that he was leaving to return to his family in Nashville, Tennessee.
