THE NEW FALL SEASON: "The Secret Circle"

NC-born Kevin Williamson executive produces "The Secret Circle" (9 tonight, the CW), about an orphaned girl (Britt Robertson) who moves in with her grandmother (to a town where everybody is remarkable good looking) and learns from other teens in town that she's a witch.

If she combines powers with them, the group may discover what happened to their parents 16 years earlier -- many of whom have died. It's a fun companion to "The Vampire Diaries," although, at least in the first ep, not as flat-out scary or gruesome.

But of course, witches can kill you in more ways than vampires can, so let the body count begin.

Charlotte native gets Kevin Williamson show for fall

Britt Robertson, the young Charlotte native who starred in the CW's "Life Unexpected," has been tapped to star in a new show slated to air on the same network this fall.

Robertson will star in "The Secret Circle," a drama based on a three-book series from "The Vampire Diaries" author L.J. Smith. Robertson will play a young woman who moves to a new town and discovers she's not only a witch but also the key to unlocking a centuries-old battle of good vs. evil.

Sound familiar? Yeah, it sounds an awful lot like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Which we love! So yes!

"The Secret Circle" is being co-written and exec-produced by another North Carolina native, Kevin Williamson of 'Scream" fame, who currently has a CW hit with "The Vampire Diaries." The Hollywood Reporter says Liz Freidlander will direct the pilot.

"Life Unexpected" ran for two seasons on The CW.

"Scream: The Inside Story" shows how an NC boy made it big

With one script, NC native Kevin Williamson changed a film genre, revived a veteran director's career and made himself a Hollywood player.

It was the script for the blockbuster film "Scream," and "Scream: The Inside Story" (Bio, 8 tonight) is a lively and fun look at the making and impact of the 1996 film that spawned three sequels ("Scream 4" comes out this month).

Oriental's Kevin Williamson returns with "The Vampire Diaries"

There's lots of pretty faces on the new, tonight at 8, "Vampire Diaries", (it's the CW, after all) but it's the name behind the show that matters most.

That name is Kevin Williamson, the show's co-creator and one of its main writers, who is from Oriental (near New Bern), the son of a fisherman.
