What ever happened to good teams equals air time?
Submitted by amoody3 on 02/28/2010 - 17:32I know when you are in Raleigh, local college basketball weighs on the television coverage scale.
But I don't think UNC or Wake Forest fans would disagree with the fact that their Saturday game was not important enough to constitute bumping the last five actual minutes of the already airing Kentucky (ESPN/USA Today #2) versus #17 Tennessee.
That's even more true when Kentucky overcame a 54-35 second half deficit to tie the game at 65 just moments before viewers were informed of the nearing opportunity to witness Tarheel and Demon Deacon players still in warm-up attire.
What ever happened to, "Yeah, we're going to shift coverage for this game, but now let's go back to (your favorite team's city here) for the conclusion of a better game, which also happens to be played between better teams"?
It never happened. A short recap of the excluded conclusion was aired after the game was already over.
This is something rarely, maybe never, seen before on a station that has achieved Mecca-status viewership of Saturday and Sunday college hoops.
What a miss. Those watching the "originally scheduled game" know how true that is.
