UNC identifies football players in parking probe

UNC confirmed this afternoon that Greg Little is the former football player who received 93 parking tickets associated with five different vehicles.

Those vehicles had nine different license plates on them, apparently from the use of dealer tags.

Little has declined to comment since last week when — in the wake of a court ruling — the university released public records revealing that some Tar Heels football players had racked up 395 campus parking tickets totaling $13,125 in fines over a three-and-a-half year span.

Senior Bowl: UNC's Burney to address agent scandal

MOBILE, Ala. – Kendric Burney knows the questions are coming.

When the North Carolina cornerback sits down with NFL teams this week during Senior Bowl activities, Burney will be prepared to discuss the events that led to his six-game suspension this past season for accepting improper agent-related benefits.

“Everybody kind of knows what went on now. So now they're going to hear our side of the story and everything will work out for the good,” Burney said Sunday.

“I'll tell my story. Some will believe it, some might not. But I believe that me telling the truth and getting it off my shoulders will set me free for the rest of my career.”

Burney cleared to play for UNC

UNC senior cornerback Kendric Burney has been cleared to play this Saturday against William & Mary, the university announced this afternoon.

A first-team All-ACC performer last season, Burney has yet to play this season for the Tar Heels. He was suspended six games for violations of NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules and was scheduled to return in time for Saturday's game against Miami.

But Burney was held out of the game, a 33-10 loss to the Hurricanes, while UNC worked with the NCAA to determine his eligibility status.

UNC's Burney out for Miami game, Brown out for season

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina senior cornerback Kendric Burney will not be available to play this Saturday against Miami because of an "unresolved issue," the university announced this afternoon.

In addition, junior cornerback Charles Brown will miss the remainder of the 2010 season but will have one season of athletic eligibility remaining.

Burney's case not resolved

North Carolina cornerback Kendric Burney has not been cleared for Saturday's game at Miami, a team spokesman said this morning.

The NCAA suspended Burney, an All-ACC cornerback, six games for receiving agent-related benefits. He was scheduled to return on Saturday but before UNC's win at Virginia on Oct. 16, the school announced Burney still had "unresolved issues."

UNC's Euwell cleared; Burney has new issues

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — UNC will get one more player back, reserve defensive end Linwan Euwell, but the school announced this afternoon that All-ACC cornerback Kendric Burney has an "unresolved issue" related to the ongoing NCAA investigation.

Burney was suspended six games by the NCAA for receiving agent-related benefits. He was supposed to return next week but UNC announced that Burney has an "unresolved issues related to the ongoing review and his status for the Miami game is undetermined at this point."

Appeals of Burney, Williams denied

An NCAA committee has denied the appeals of North Carolina football players Kendric Burney and Deunta Williams, UNC athletic director Dick Baddour announced this afternoon in a statement released by the school.

Williams will complete his four-game suspension Saturday and will return to the field Oct. 2 against Clemson. Burney will serve the final three games of his six-game suspension and will return Oct. 23 at Miami.

NCAA to decide on Burney, Williams appeals today

The NCAA was scheduled to hear UNC's appeal for senior defensive backs Kendric Burney and Deunta Williams at 9 a.m. today.

The NCAA suspended Burney, for six games, and Williams, for four games, on Sept. 22 for receiving improper benefits.

UNC to appeal Burney and Williams' NCAA suspensions Friday

RALEIGH — The NCAA has scheduled a Friday conference call in order for North Carolina to appeal last week's suspensions of football players Kendric Burney and Deunta Williams, UNC athletic director Dick Baddour said today following an appearance at the Raleigh Sports Club.

"Customarily, we would know [the decisions] the same day,'' Baddour said. That means there is a chance that at least one of the secondary starters could play in Saturday’s game against East Carolina, if their penalties are reduced.

UNC dad: Hawkins is reason Burney is suspended

Tyrone Burney said former UNC player Chris Hawkins is the reason his son got suspended for six games by the NCAA.

Burney said his son took trips to Atlanta and Las Vegas with Hawkins, who the NCAA defined as a sports agent after he purchased Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green’s Independence Bowl jersey for $1,000. Green is serving a four-game NCAA suspension.

Burney, a starting cornerback, met Hawkins through Willie Parker, about five years ago, Tyrone Burney said.
