Kelsey Grammer's standout performance shows he's the "Boss"

If you were one of those people, oh so long ago, who didn't have HBO, and so felt pained when folks talked about "Sex and the City" and "The Sopranos," and how good they were, guess what? It might be about to happen again.

Because you might not have Starz, and tonight at 10, is the premiere of "Boss" and it's really, really good. Missing it means missing out.

The show stars Kelsey Grammer as Mayor Tom Kane, a vicious, powerful man who learns he has a rare degenerative disease. He doesn't tell anyone, partly because he's not really close with anyone. His marriage to Meredith (Connie Nielsen) is loveless, built on their mutual ambition. Their daughter Emma (Hannah Ware) is estranged from her parents; she's a recovering addict, struggling to stay the course and keep her faith, but there's temptation in the form of her drug dealer (Darius Morrison).

"Real Housewives of Beverly Hills": More of the same and that's good, right?

It seems impossible that "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" (Bravo, 10 tonight) would be significantly different from the other versions.

That's kind of the point, though, isn't it? Bravo has found a winning formula, and they aim to duplicate it as many times as they can get it to work (we might have to call the near-universally maligned D.C. version a failure), giving us the look at wealth, drama, and relationships we regular folk seem to crave. Now that everyone involved gets the show and it's potential for money, fame or whatever, part of the fun is who seeing who works the camera versus who gets worked over by the camera.

So no, the Beverly Hills edition isn't incredibly different, but there are differences. For one, the fakers in Atlanta can't even pretend to have the kind of wealth on display here.

Canceled: On an ax-swinging roll, ABC kills "Hank"

After airing only six episodes, ABC has announced it is canceling Kelsey Grammer's new sitcom, "Hank." Some TV critics are saying ABC is about five episodes too late on this one.

The sitcom has been a critical and ratings failure for ABC, the weak link on their otherwise strong comedy night ("The Middle," "Modern Family," and "Cougar Town" have already been renewed by the network).

The show is in the middle of filming its 10th episode and will shut down once that episode is completed.

ABC announced earlier this week that they are also pulling the plug on their Wednesday night drama "Eastwick."

What to Watch on Wednesday: Chenoweth hits Glee

Hank (8pm, ABC) - A new pilot starring Kelsey Grammer as a CEO who loses his job and has to face downsizing with his wife and kids. This hasn't gotten very good reviews, but maybe ole "Frazier" deserves the benefit of the doubt. I'm in for one show.

The Middle (8:30pm, ABC) - Patricia Heaton, Grammer's former partner from the Fox sitcom "Back to You," plays a middle-aged Indiana mom with a blue-collar husband (Neil Flynn from "Scrubs") and three kids.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - The premiere of this sitcom last week was laugh out loud funny. Tonight, Mitchell and Cameron sign Lily up for a Mommy & Me class.

Glee (9pm, Fox) - Our favorite songstress on our favorite show! Kristin Chenoweth stars as Will's former classmate, called in to help spice up the glee club.
