Olbermann to debut on Current TV in June

Current TV has just unveiled the name and debut date of former MSNBC mad man/commentator Keith Olbermann's new show on the channel.

Hmm. Maybe 'unveiled' is too strong a word. The show's name? "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."  Yes, that is the same name as the MSNBC show he left. Guess he owns the title.

Beginning June 20, the show will air each week night at 8, and will "combine familiar and popular features with some new elements that we can’t wait to unveil,” said Mark Rosenthal, CEO of Current.  “We’re creating a great platform for Keith’s style, which includes a very sophisticated digital presence for him -- that we think will appeal to his very enthusiastic and active following.  The show will also appeal to new viewers tuning into Keith for the first time.“

Which we'll translate to mean the same show with a few new cool graphics.

Chapel Hill native pulls up a stool and stars in "Bar Karma"

Keith Olbermann has gotten all the press with his move to Current TV. But there's another debut that happens tonight on Current and it's a local boy.

Chapel Hill native Matthew Humphreys stars in "Bar Karma" (10 p.m.), a new sci-fi series with an interesting twist: viewers help tell the story, going on line to add plot points, choose the music, even create episodes. The show was created by video game creator Will Wright, whose work includes The Sims and Sim City, and Albie Hecht.

Humphreys portrays Doug Jones, who walks out of bedroom and into a bar at the edge of the universe. There, he meets James (William Sanderson), a 20,000 year-old bartender and waitress Dayna (Cassie Howarth). Basically, Doug learns that his fate is unknown, and until it is, he now owns the bar and must help others who enter make the right decisions to change their grim fates.

MSNBC's ousted Olbermann moving to Current TV

Keith Olbermann, who hosted the highest-rated show on MSNBC, announced this morning that he will soon host a primetime television show and take on an executive role at the struggling cable channel Current TV. He will also have an equity stake in the company.

Olbermann was dismissed from MSNBC last month.

Current TV was co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore. They produce original news documentaries on a wide variety of public interest topics. Laura Ling and Euna Lee, the two reporters imprisoned in North Korea in 2009 and later released to former President Bill Clinton, were on assignment for Current TV when they were arrested.

Current TV shows can be watched online at their website, and are also available through most cable carriers. It airs locally on channel 413 on Time Warner Cable and 358 on DirecTV.

Keith Olbermann is out at MSNBC

Keith Olbermann is out at MSNBC. He made the announcement during his final "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," which aired tonight. Olbermann is the highest rated host at MSNBC but has had a contentious relationship with the network since his suspension over political campaign contributions last November.

MSNBC released this statement: “MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of ‘Countdown with Keith Olbermann’ will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC’s success and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Olbermann will be replaced by Lawrence O'Donnell.

Whose pronoun is it anyway?

Even the notoriously smarty pants "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" (and I say that with affection and admiration) makes a mistake that bedevils many of us. In a caption promoting Friday night's story about Sarah Palin's interview, the "Countdown" crew on MSNBC mixed up whose (possessive) and who's (contraction for "who is").

We have only one rule to remember: Possessive pronouns never use an apostrophe.
