Millbrook High football running back Keith Marshall was named at the North Carolina Gatorade football player of the year on Thursday.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Marshall rushed for 1,891 yards and 25 touchdowns. He led the Wildcats to a 6-6 season and a berth in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4AA playoffs.
Marshall ran for 1,550 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior in 2010 and 1,166 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore.
He was the NCHSAA 4A state 100 meters champion last spring and has a 4.29 overall grade point average.
He is expected to make his college decision on Tuesday. Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Clemson are believed to be his leaders.

Thirteen area football players made one of the four NCpreps.com preseason football teams, with the most coming at the 4-A level.

This is the scenario Millbrook’s Keith Marshall loves most about football: When the Wildcats have the large lead at halftime, Marshall knows he’s getting the ball in the second half.
And at this point, coach Clarence Inscore doesn’t have to mention the second-half game plan to Marshall in the locker room. Even if Knightdale knew Millbrook was running on first, second and third down, they still couldn’t stop Marshall, a running back, as he led the way in the Wildcats’ 31-0 win Friday night.
Millbrook hopes to dodge the types of injuries that hindered last year's team. The Wildcats also want to improve on run defense.
