N.C. State grants Uchebo release from scholarship

N.C. State basketball recruit Joseph Uchebo, a 6-foot-9 forward at Raleigh Word of God, has requested a release from his scholarship offer.

Uchebo could not be reached for comment today, but N.C. State spokesperson Annabelle Myers confirmed that Uchebo had made the request of new coach Mark Gottfried and the Wolfpack program. N.C. State has granted Uchebo's request, Myers said.

Uchebo wanted to move closer to family

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — N.C. State recruit Joseph Uchebo transferred to Word of God to be closer to his family.

The 6-9 power forward from Nigeria played for Oak Ridge Military Academy in 2009-10 in Oak Ridge, N.C. in northwest Guilford County, which is in between Winston-Salem and Greensboro.

Big start for Huntersville's Sullivan at NBA top 100 camp

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — It didn't take long for Huntersville's Bernard Sullivan to make a big impression this morning at the NBA Players Association's top 100 camp.

A few minutes into his opening game at the camp, Sullivan swished a left-handed 3-pointer from a few feet left of the top of the key. Sullivan, who's 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds, added a nifty up-and-under move for a basket from the lane.

N.C. State recruit to move up to class of 2011

If everything goes according to plan, basketball recruit Joseph Uchebo will get to N.C. State one year sooner than expected.

Uchebo, a 6-9 power forward from Nigeria, is going to reclassify as a senior and graduate in 2011, his high school coach said Friday before Uchebo played in the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in Chapel Hill.
