Garner, Johnston County set for second round American Legion Baseball Playoff series

Johnston County Post 71 and Garner Post 232 cruised into the second round of the American Legion Baseball playoffs with two-game sweeps of Creedmoor and Cary Post 67, repsectively.

The two division rivals will meet in a best-of-three series starting Monday at Smithfield-Selma High School.

The series schedule:

Game 1: Monday at Smithfield-Selma High School

Game 2: Wednesday at Garner High School

Game 3, if needed: Thursday at Smithfield-Selma High School

American Legion Baseball playoffs begin Thursday

The American Legion Baseball playoffs begin Thursday across Eastern North Carolina with eight Triangle-area teams in action. The first-round best-of-three series continue through Saturday. All games start at 7 p.m. unless noted.

The Area I West Division first-round match-ups are:

(1) Raleigh Post 1 (12-5) vs. (4) Pittsboro (3-9)
(2) Apex Post 124 (9-5) vs. (3) Durham Post 7 (8-10)
(1) Johnston County Post 71 (16-4) vs. (4) Creedmoor (3-10) - Thursday at Smithfield-Selma High (7:30); Friday at South Granville; Saturday at Smithfield-Selma High
(3) Garner Post 232 (19-8) vs. (2) Cary Post 67 (8-9) - Friday at Cary High; Saturday at Garner; Sunday (if necessary) at Garner

Johnston County vs. Garner American Legion series shifted back a day

Rain claimed the first scheduled game of the American Legion baseball three-game series between Garner Post 232 and Johnston County Post 71 that was scheduled for Friday night.

The series will now shift to a Saturday, Sunday and Monday format with Saturday's game at Smithfield-Selma High School and the Sunday and Monday tilts at Garner High School.

All games in the series start at 7 p.m.
