Evidentally, new Kentucky coach John Calipari did not choose which games former Word of God star John Wall would miss as punishment for having recruiting expenses paid by an agent, Lexington Herald-Leader reporter Jerry Tipton reports on his blog.
Former Word of God basketball star John Wall has been cleared to play this season — after he sits out an exhibition game and regular season game, and pays back almost $800 in travel expenses "incurred during Wall's unofficial visits to various institutions during his junior year at Word of God Christian Academy."
Here's the full news release from Kentucky:
Without ever saying John Wall’s name, the Lexington Herald-Leader reports, University of Kentucky president Lee Todd acknowledged on Tuesday that one of the school’s basketball players faces questions about his amateurism that could affect his eligibility.
Last week, Southeastern Conference Mike Slive last week told ESPN.com that
the player was Wall, a heralded freshman point guard and former Word of
God star.
Congratulations to John Wall and Fay Jones for being named Wake's top school-level administrators.
Wall, the principal of North Garner Middle, was named 2009 Principal of the Year last night. Jones, an assistant principal at Forest Pines Elementary, was named 2009 Assistant Principal of the Year.
Wake avoided what could have been a PR problem by not giving the award to Barwell Road Elementary School Principal Annice Williams, one of five finalists. Barwell has the lowest passing rate on state exams of any Wake elementary school.
Wake has announced its finalists for principal and assistant principal of the year.
The Principal of the Year finalists are Mary Page of Bugg Elementary, Annice Williams of Barwell Elementary, Teresa Winstead of Durant Road Elementary, John Wall of North Garner Middle and Edward McFarland of Fuquay-Varina High.
The Assistant Principal of the Year finalists are Melissa Blackmon of Willow Springs Elementary, Lisa Brown of Leesville Road Elementary, Edna Fay Jones of Forest Pines Elementary, Christopher Coby of Wendell Middle and Robert Matheson of Apex High.
Notes from Sidney Lowe's press conference on Thursday:
• The Wolfpack went 1-for-2 in the late recruiting period, landing forward DeShawn Painter but losing out on point guard John Wall.
Painter, a 6-9 power forward, orginally signed with Florida but was released from his LOI and chose the Wolfpack in May. Lowe called Painter's decision a "great break."
