JetBlue moving into Terminal 2 at RDU

JetBlue Airways, the discount airline with flights to three destinations from Raleigh-Durham International Airport, will move its operations into Terminal 2 starting Wednesday. [See 5/12/11 story "At RDU, a flourish for Terminal 2; a fix for Terminal 1."]

Passengers who fly JetBlue to New York Kennedy, Boston and Fort Lauderdale will use gates C8 and C10 in the new Terminal 2.

The move will leave Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airlines, whose merger was completed last week, as the only carriers using Terminal 1.

AirTran will move later this month into the north end of Terminal 1, where Southwest is located now, so RDU can close the main part of the building in advance of a Terminal 1 renovation project that will start next year.

JetBlue brings back unlimited travel pass

JetBlue is reviving its popular all-you-can-fly option where customers pay $699 for an unlimited month of fall travel.

There's also a cheaper version at $499 that excludes travel on Fridays and Sundays. The pass is good for flights between Sept. 7 and Oct. 6.

That's typically a slow time for airlines, between the summer and holiday travel seasons. From Raleigh-Durham International Airport, travelers can reach nonstop destinations in Boston, New York and Ft. Lauderdale, and make connections to other cities from there.

JetBlue expands RDU-Boston service

JetBlue has expanded its service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Boston.

The airline announced last fall it would add two more flights this summer. It now offers three each day.

JetBlue began service at RDU in 2006 and last year handled about 3 percent of the airport's flights. The carrier also flies to New York and Ft. Lauderdale.

JetBlue adds two more Boston flights

JetBlue Airways, which offers one daily flight from RDU Airport to Boston Logan, said today it will add two more next summer.

That will bring JetBlue's RDU service to seven daily flights, including three to Boston. JetBlue now has three daily flights to New York JFK, one to Boston and one to Fort Lauderdale.

JetBlue Airways will add two more flights from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Boston. The airline currently offers one flight per day. The additional flights will begin in the summer.

After the addition, JetBlue will be offering seven flights from RDU. The airline began service from RDU in July 2006. Total, there are 192 daily flights from RDU to 35 different cities.

JetBlue's announcement is the second flight addition at RDU recently. Last week, Southwest Airlines announced a nonstop flight from RDU to St. Louis.

Lufthansa-JetBlue deal may benefit RDU travelers

Travel to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia from Raleigh-Durham International airport could be easier by the end of the year.

Lufthansa has signed a ticketing agreement with JetBlue that allows the German airline to sell tickets to JetBlue's customers as if they were their own. JetBlue customers out of RDU will connect via JFK in New York or Logan in Boston to fly to one Lufthansa's 180 international destinations.

Lufthansa is promising a "seamless flight experience."

The deal must be approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. If it is, customers could start buying tickets later this month or early in October.

RDU is one of 12 cities that will offer the connecting service.

JetBlue selling month of unlimited flights for $599

If you have a month to kill and an itch to fly, check out JetBlue's new deal.

The discount airline is offering a $599 "all-you-can-fly" pass where passengers can book an unlimited number of flights to any of its 56 destinations between Sept. 8 and Oct. 8. The potential stops include, of course, Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

JetBlue's new approach to lure recession-weary travelers has some catches. Customers must book the pass by Aug. 21. Taxes aren't included and a $100 change or cancellation fee applies.

No shows also get hit with a $100 fee and their pass is suspended until it's paid.

But hey, if you have an extra $600+ and some serious vacation time saved up, JetBlue's serves cities across the U.S., as well as in Mexico, South America and the Caribbean. And it has been a quiet hurricane season so far.
