Rear view is what's new at Fabrik

Sure the jeans look good from the front. But what about the back?

Fabrik clothing boutique in Cameron Village has that problem sovled with a new "Butt Cam." The new camera lets you see the front and the back views of the jeans at the same time.

The skinny on skinny jeans

The gals from Beija-Flor, a denim company out of Greenville, S.C., who make jeans from stretch denim from Brazil, are seriously keen on the skinny jeans trend, saying that more of us than we think can really wear them.

One of the owners, Kathy Moca, will be coming to Raleigh's Certain Things in Cameron Village Thursday and Friday to help customers find jeans, including skinny jeans.

In the meantime, here are a few tips from the company about pulling off the skinny jean look ...

*Pick a darker wash, like a deep indigo or black. This will create a more slimming illusion than a lighter wash, which often makes thighs and hips appear larger.

*Balance the fact that your bottom is slim with a looser, flowy top or tunic. "A simple T-shirt gives you a rock star look, while pairing your skinny jeans with a tunic sets you up for a night on the town," says Emilie Whitaker, one of the company's co-founders. "Have a knit dress that you don't enough use out of? Wear it over your skinny jeans."

*Shoes are a huge factor when wearing skinny jeans, and you have a few options. A stiletto heel is going to be great for hippier women, or women with shorter legs because it will instantly elongate the leg. Even if you already have long legs, a stiletto heel will make you look incredibly long and lean. A flat shoe is a great daytime option for a more casual look, but can draw attention to your hips and rear. Tuck your jeans into boots. This is one of the most flattering ways to wear skinny jeans, especially for curvier girls (and also a great way to hide large calves). It will create a visual balancing effect as the boots will offset your hips and rear.

Citizens of Humanity trunk show at Uniquities

The event moves to the Cameron Village store on Saturday from 1-5 p.m. Citizens brand specialist Blair Nance, who is originally from Chapel Hill, will be at both shows to help you find the right pair.

"Jeans doctor" is in Wednesday at Vermillion

Check out the selection of MiH (Made in Heaven) Jeans and get some tips on the best cuts of jeans for your body type Wednesday at Vermillion in North Hills.

Janie Wood of MiH will be at the North Hills boutique from 4 to 7 p.m. to work with shoppers with the latest collection of MiH denim.

Nearly 40 years ago, the jeans were worn by the “it” girls of the day from Jerry Hall to Farrah Fawcett. The brand was relaunched four years ago by the goddaughter of the original designer. And the cuts, many of which have the same ‘70s feel of the originals, are again favorites among the celebrity crowd, mostly because they’re known to help lengthen the look of the leg and lift the behind.
