Quarterback Russell Wilson and guard J.R. Sweezy are expected to start for Seattle on Sunday in their opener at Arizona. Sweezy played defensive tackle in college but has moved to offense in the pros.

Pros and cons to latest Wolfpack injury report

N.C. State's injury report for Saturday's game against Georgia Tech offers hope for a return of a key player on defense and adds another blow to an already depleted starting lineup.

Senior defensive tackle J.R. Sweezy, who has been limited in practice this week, is listed as questionable. Sweezy, a senior captain, has missed the first four games with a foot injury. With four other defensive linemen listed as out, State would get a boost if Sweezy, who had six sacks last year, plays.

Pack's decimated defense awaits Yellow Jackets

Winless against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents, N.C. State's season doesn't get any easier with a visit from No. 21 Georgia Tech on Saturday.

The Wolfpack (2-2) will face the No. 1-ranked offense in the country without four of its top eight defensive linemen.

Defensive tackle Brian Slay (ankle) and defensive tackle A.J. Ferguson (knee) join end Jeff Rieskamp (shoulder) and tackle J.R. Sweezy (foot) on the injured list.

Pack's Manning out three weeks

N.C. State linebacker Terrell Manning will be out three weeks with a knee injury, Wolfpack coach Tom O'Brien said Tuesday.

Manning, State's starting outside linebacker, had surgery on his left knee on Monday, after suffering an undisclosed injury at the end of the first quarter of N.C. State's 35-13 win over South Alabama.

Pack's Sweezy sidelined six weeks

Injury issues are starting to pile up for N.C. State's football team.

Standout defensive tackle J.R. Sweezy will miss at least the first five games after undergoing surgery for a foot fracture on Sunday, according to the school.

He will be out six weeks, according to the school release, which spans until Oct. 2, or the first five games of the season.

Bryan, Sweezy named Wolfpack captains

N.C. State named tight end George Bryan and defensive tackle J.R. Sweezy captains on Tuesday, the first day of football practice for the Wolfpack.

Bryan, a senior from Castle Hayne, was an All-ACC selection in both 2009 and 2010. He caught 36 passes last season. Sweezy, a senior from Mooresville, was second on the team with six sacks last season.

Pack linemen to play vs. UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. - Starting offensive tackle Jake Vermiglio and backup defensive tackles J.R. Sweezy and Markus Kuhn will play for N.C. State in today's game at Central Florida, N.C. State sports information director Annabelle Myers said.

Coach Tom O'Brien held all three players out of the Sept. 4 opener against Western Carolina, but did not explain why. They were charged in April with possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana, and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of using a controlled substance.

A judge dismissed the charges after ruling that investigators improperly searched the players' apartment.

N.C. State backup quarterback Mike Glennon is warming up with the team after suffering a left knee injury against Western Carolina. Myers said she did not have an update on Glennon's status.

Three N.C. State players held out for WCU

N.C. State senior offensive tackle Jake Vermiglio and defensive tackles J.R. Sweezy and Markus Kuhn will not dress for today's 6 p.m. game against Western Carolina at Carter-Finley Stadium.

In April, the three players were charged with with possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana, and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of using a controlled substance. Investigators seized three plastic bags filled with about six grams of marijuana, a "blunt" cigar stuffed with marijuana, two homemade bongs and other paraphernalia from their apartment, according to a search warrant.

The charges later were dismissed after a judge ruled the police search was improper.

N.C. State suspends Sweezy

Sweezy, 20, was charged with misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor larceny, according to the Mooresville Police Department, after getting into a physical altercation with David Scott Magnuson and Nicholas Kaplan at 2:37 a.m. on March 18.
