Video: Apex's comeback against Millbrook boys basketball

Correspondent Steven Gaither was a master multi-tasker Wednesday night.

During third-seeded Apex's comeback win against sixth-seeded Millbrook in the second round of the NCHSAA 4A boys' basketball playoffs, he was taking notes for his story and taking video.

The story you may have already read here, complete with both coaches' reaction.

The video is on Gaither's YouTube channel, and we'll link it here. Apex didn't score a point in the second quarter, but went on a scoring binge in the third to set up a winning layup with only a few ticks left.

Video: Quentin Jackson's buzzer-beater - did it count?

Last night's Middle Creek at Holly Springs boys' basketball game went down to the wire in overtime. Quentin Jackson's floater just before the final buzzer rolled in, and Middle Creek won 71-69.

Here's video of the final possession (Holly Springs had just hit two free throws to tie it up with 14.9 seconds left). Do you think the shot should have counted? It's ridiculously close, but I think the refs got it right by a hair.

Video of Nitin Reddy's Senior Night 3-pointer

As you can read in this game story, Green Hope manager Nitin Reddy -- who has special needs -- got a chance to play on senior night in the Falcons' 61-34 win Tuesday night.

The Green Hope students were chanting for Nitin to get into the game.

He did with 1:42 left.

It takes for Reddy (#24) awhile to get his bearings.

He first lines up in a wrong spot at the free throw line. His first two shots were well off the mark (he usually shoots from straightaway, but took all six of his 3-pointers from the left wing against Cary).

But his fourth 3-point attempt -- after almost hitting the shot clock on a high bounce off the rim -- fell straight through.

What resulted, was pandemonium (around the 2:50 mark).

Around the 3:48 mark, the Green Hope students chant his name.

After the game (around the 4:50 mark) his teammates carry him on their shoulders off the floor.

Here's a link to the video on our website, and it's also embedded below

Gaffney joins 2,000-point club

Kristen Gaffney joined elite company on Tuesday.

The Green Hope senior and Vanderbilt recruit scored her 2,000th point in the third quarter in the Falcons' 51-44 win against Holly Springs. Gaffney scored 18 in the win and now has 2,006 in her career.

Below is video of Gaffney's 12th and 13th points of the night (Nos. 2,000 and 2,0001 for her career), which came from the free throw line.

Video of Holly Springs' game-winner

Holly Springs had three chances to score the winning basket in its game Thursday night against Heritage. And the third time was the charm.

Here is the video as Golden Hawks senior Brock Hall collects the offensive rebound and hits the game-winner with just more than four seconds left for a 55-54 non-conference win.
