Redick jersey not too welcome in Chapel Hill

In an attempt to test just how hated former Duke star (and current Orlando Magic player) J.J. Redick remains in Chapel Hill, Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi donned a No. 7 Redick jersey and wandered around the UNC campus.

He was asked to leave the Smith Center and got heckled Carolina fans.

Step aside, Jay-Z

Hip hop has a new hero and it's none other than former Duke great J.J. Redick.

The erstwhile ACC scoring king told allhiphop.com that he's releasing an album with a rap "super group" before the end of the year.

Return of Redick

J.J. Redick has spent most of his NBA with the Orlando Magic career sitting on the bench, and apparently working out (dude is swoll).

Courtney Lee's injury in the first round of the NBA Playoffs has given Redick, Duke's career-leading scorer (insert chuckle here by UNC fan since that's Duke's leading scorer and not the ACC's), a chance to play meaningful minutes. He started Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals and helped the Magic beat the Boston Celtics, 95-90.

J.J. to Tyler: Congrats

CHAPEL HILL — Orlando Magic guard J.J. Redick called UNC's Tyler Hansbrough on Friday to congratulate the forward on breaking his ACC career scoring record.

"It was a little awkward, because I've never talked to J.J. very much; I don't really know him well,'' Hansbrough said.

Hansbrough sets ACC record

GREENSBORO — The ACC has a new career scoring leader.

North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough reached 2,770 points on the first of two free throws with 15 minutes, 43 seconds remaining Thursday afternoon in the first half of a first-round NCAA Tournament game against Radford at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Radford forward Phillip Martin committed the foul that sent Hansbrough to the free throw line. After a timeout, Hansbrough stepped to the line at 3:12 p.m. and hit two free throws.

No record fatigue for Hansbrough

Now that Tyler Hansbrough is this late in his senior season, having been around for almost four years scoring and rebounding at the pace he's been scoring and rebounding, just about everything he does sets some kind of a record.

In Saturday's 104-74 win over Georgia Tech, Hansbrough converted the 906th free throw of his career early in the second half, passing Wake Forest's Dickie Hemric for the NCAA record, but Hansbrough said it never gets old.

My Duke-UNC memory

The first Duke-North Carolina game I covered for The Charlotte Observer was a classic that gave me five extra minutes of basketball.

For years with The (Columbia, S.C.) State Newspaper, I had witnessed the menace and ill will that rivals expressed toward each other at Williams-Brice and Death Valley in the Clemson-South Carolina rivalry.

Having played basketball in high school, I was eager to see how Duke-Carolina compared in the sport I enjoy most. I found the fans in North Carolina less hateful toward each other than their mustard barbecue-loving counterparts from south of the border, but no less passionate.

Krzyzewski says Hansbrough is 'worthy'

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski talked about UNC forward Tyler Hansbrough, currently on the shelf with a stress reaction, going after the UNC and ACC scoring records. Krzyzewski talked about how the process was for J.J. Redick, the current ACC scoring record-holder, and how it might be for Hansbrough once he returns.

The clip is from Operation Basketball in Atlanta on Oct. 26, before Hansbrough got injured.
