Groups urging Wake to fight Title IX gender equity complaint

Three conservative group are urging the Wake County school system to fight a federal Title IX probe into allegations of gender discrimination in high school sports.

The National Women’s Law Center is accusing Wake and 11 other school districts around the country of failing to provide high school girls with equal opportunities as boys to play interscholastic sports. The College Sports Council sent a letter today to all 12 districts urging them "to resist pressure from the National Women's Law Center to enforce gender quotas in high school athletics."

In a press release today announcing the letter, the College Sports Council, the Pacific Legal Foundation and the Independent Women’s Forum contend that applying the same standard used in intercollegiate athletics for Title IX compliance to high schools is unconstitutional and could result in sidelining as many as 1.3 million male athletes.
