Time Warner Cable expanding Charlotte campus and adding 225 jobs

Time Warner Cable plans to add 225 jobs at its Charlotte campus over the next three years and invest millions building a data center at the site.

State officials awarded the company nearly $3 million in incentives this morning if it meets hiring and investment goals. The city of Charlotte is also providing $2 million in incentives.

Time Warner employs about 5,000 people in North Carolina, including about 2,500 in the Charlotte area.

This is the third state incentives package the company has received since 2004. The company has thus far met the investment and hiring goals of both the 2004 package and the 2008 package.

Canadian auto parts company to open plant in Asheville; create 363 jobs

Linamar, a Canadian manufacturer of auto parts and other industrial components, plans to open a new plant in Asheville and create 363 jobs over the next four years.

State officials approved a state incentives package this evening worth $2.5 million if the company meets hiring and investment goals.

The company is also receiving $10 million in incentives from the city of Asheville and Buncombe County.

The incentives include $7 million for the purchase of a building and $3 million in cash grants.

Gov. Beverly Perdue and Secretary of State Keith Crisco are both scheduled to appear at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville this evening to announce the project.

The new jobs are expected to pay $39,931, above the Buncombe County average of $33,800.

Linamar, which is publicly traded and based in Ontario, also considered sites in South Carolina.

The company makes engines and transmissions as well as components used in the energy industry and for a host of other industrial uses.

The Asheville plant is expected to make engines and other parts for large trucks.

The company is creating a new North Carolina company that will be a Linamar subsidiary.
 

Raleigh and Wake Co. gave RBC $750k to move HQ

These days, when a company is acquired and job cuts loom the question of incentives inevitably comes up.

As for RBC Bank, the company was to receive $750,000 from Raleigh and Wake County officials for moving its headquarters from Rocky Mount.

But that money was not contingent on jobs.

AKG expanding Mebane plant and adding 76 jobs

AKG, a manufacturer of heating and cooling systems, said today that it is expanding its facility in Mebane and adding 76 jobs over the next three years.

The $3.3 million project will add 42,000 square feet to AKG's Mebane plant, which currently employs 311 people and serves as the German company's North American headquarters.

AKG received a $100,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

Earlier this month Orange County officials approved giving AKG $100,000 in five annual installments of $20,000.

Mebane has also pledged to provide the company $60,000.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $42,710 plus benefits. The Orange County average is $33,852.

The Mebane plant, which opened in 1981, is one of 11 manufacturing facilities AKG has around the world.

The company's heating systems are used in a variety of industries, including construction, forestry, agriculture and mining.

Technimark will expand Asheboro headquarters and create 30 jobs

Technimark, which makes plastic moldings for consumer packaging, cosmetics and medical devices, said today that it is expanding its facility in Randolph County and adding 30 jobs over the next four years.

The company will invest $20 million at its Asheboro headquarters, where it currently employs 639. 

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $61,333, plus benefits. The Randolph County average is $29,952.

Technimark is receiving a $60,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
 
Technimark has 10 manufacturing locations in the U.S., Germany, Mexico and China.

Manufacturer opening plant in Lincolnton; adding 150 jobs

AptarGroup, a maker of beauty product dispensers, said today that it plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Lincolnton and hire 150 people over the next five years.

The company expects to invest $50 million in the facility in Lincolnton, about 35 miles northwest of Charlotte.

AptarGroup is eligible to receive $1 million in state incentives if it meets hiring and investment goals.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $36,311 a year, not including benefits. The Lincoln County average is $30,784.

Aptar makes dispensing systems, such as spray and lotion pumps and aerosol valves, used by consumer product marketers.

The company has about 8,600 employees at manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe, Asia and South America. 

AptarGroup is based in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Electrolux awarded $8 million in incentives to open new facility in Charlotte that will employ 200

Swedish appliance maker Electrolux will open a new engineering and design center in Charlotte and create an additional 200 jobs.

State officials this morning awarded the company incentives worth up to $7.5 million if it meets hiring and investment goals.

Charlotte and Mecklenburg County are providing the company with $630,000 in incentives as part of this latest expansion.

Electrolux already employes 450 people in Charlotte, where it has its North American headquarters. The new center will be an expansion of its existing facility.

The company announced in 2009 that it would relocate to Charlotte and would create 738 jobs over four years.

The company was lured to Charlotte with state and local incentives that could be worth more than $27 million if it meets job creation, investment and wage goals.

Italian company to open coating plant in Hickory and create 110 jobs

An Italian company that makes coating machines for gas turbines said today that it would open a new production facility in Catawba County and create 110 jobs over the next five years.

Turbocoating SpA will invest $15 million in a facility in Hickory, 180 miles west of Raleigh. The company develops processes and manufactures protective coatings for components used in Industrial Gas Turbines and Aero engines. 

The Hickory facility will help the company serve Siemens’ operations in Charlotte, one of Turbocoating’s major clients.

The company, which is based in Parma, is receiving a $110,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

Colorado dessert maker to open bakery in Robeson County; create 342 jobs

Steven Roberts Original Desserts and Ticklebelly Desserts said today that they will open a new bakery in Robeson County and create 342 jobs over the next five years. 

The Denver-based company will invest $4 million to purchase and renovate a facility in Pembroke.

It is receiving a $392,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $22,926 plus benefits, below the Robeson County average of $26,728.

Steven Roberts Original Desserts develops and produces frozen desserts that is sells to restaurants, hotels, theaters and grocery stores.  Ticklebelly makes gourmet desserts. 

The new facility will be the company's third bakery. It will allow it to expand production and manufacturing capabilities.

The company's other two bakeries are in Denver and Longmont, Colorado.

Nash County tractor company terminates incentives deal with state

LS Tractor, which announced in April 2009 that it would open a distribution and manufacturing facility in Nash County, has terminated its incentives grant with the state.

N.C. Commerce Department official approved the termination during a meeting this afternoon.

The company's incentives deal with the state called for it to create 134 new jobs over five years and invest nearly $14 million. It was eligible to receive as much as $995,000 if it met hiring and investment goals.

But the company has informed the state that it doesn't expect to meet those goals. LS Tractor currently has 23 employees and has received $14,511 from the state.

It will get to keep that money as it partially met the requirement of the first year of its grant by creating 20 out of a required 22 jobs.

LS Tractor USA is a subsidiary of LS Mtron LTd., a South Korean heavy equipment manufacturer.  

The Nash County facility, which is the company's U.S. headquarters, makes high-end compact tractors and accessories for the machines.
