Fans of the old Horwitz's Deli in North Ridge Shopping Center will be glad to hear about the opening of Weinberg's The Delicatessen in the old location this fall.
Rick Weinberg says he hopes to open in the 3,700-square-foot space at 6016 Falls of Neuse Road by late September or mid-October.
Weinberg was the original manager of Horwitz's deli in North Raleigh. (Horwitz's had two locations; one in North Raleigh and one in Cary but both have since closed.) After more than 20 years working as a food broker, Weinberg decided to open his own deli. Neil Horwitz is a consultant on the project and Weinberg's brother, Gary, who worked for Horwitz as well, also will be working for the deli.
Weinberg said it will be a table-service restaurant, carry-out service, a deli counter and a bakery case. They are bringing a lot of the products, including the bagels, in from the Bronx, or cooking the food on site.
A traditional deli has been missing in Wake County since Horwitz's closed. "It's something the area is really lacking," Weinberg says.
